    First person or third?

I can't fight melee style in first person unless my target is standing perfectly still. In third person I can still see which way I want to attack if an enemy moves out of my direct path, and can instantly adjust my attack path.

Just started playing some of the Shivering Isles DLC in Oblivion and I am actually enjoying the immersion of 1st person because of the awesome animations of my enemies. Playing with a 1H and shield is very enjoyable when you have enemies that actually have
some mechanics to dodge and block. I will post a video of me battling through a dungeon in Dementia at a fairly low level once it finishes uploading. Some serious immersion First person or third? :D

The grummite beaters are really fun to fight as a sword and shield warrior because they have a similar fighting style.

  4. First person or third?

I play in third person only. The exceptions are if I am going to shoot a bow or if I'm in a cave or building and I need to go into first person. I like being able to see my character at all times. If I do use the bow I just click to enter first person, do
that thing, then go back to third person.

  5. Chemist, What are you casting, light? I can see the attraction of that fight but it's not for me. I hate long fights and really hate seeing my hands stuck out in front of me when I'm moving. The only exception is if I am in sneak and need my bow ready for
a quick shot. That only happens in Falmer nests in Skyrim and inside a gate in Oblivion even then I usually put on a 20% Chameleon hood then I don't see myself except as a wavery glass-like figure.

I didn't see a long fight there. Which one?

  7. The first one was 2 minutes long. Okay, that's not long, but it felt long to me as I watched it. I don't play games to fight; wuld, in fact, prefer to think or talk my way out of most of them. I am not like you, Bob, I hate dying and don't want an in-my-face
    fight at all.

Oh, OK. I was just curious because in Oblivion you could easily go at it with someone for 10 minutes.

    .

Don't get me wrong because I did that once and still died at the end (one-on-one against the first enemy in The Shivering Isles) and chose not to continue with that. That game easily had one of the most restrictive difficulty options out there.

Heal major wounds. Probably don't notice because I have a fair bit of health. Restoration is the only magic I am using with Oblivion character.

I play in both. I like to see my character and surroundings but sometimes I need more detail for certain things.

First person ONLY. I LOVE the immersion in Fallout and Elder Scrolls games. These franchises is the reason why I want a Oculus Rift so bad.

    First person or third?

Third person mainly. I just like seeing my character honestly lol. It also feels less restricting during melee and in general moving around in the game. Sometimes I'll switch to first person for dialogue to get better visuals

of the NPC's faces or, like most mentioned, for shooting bows.

Sorry to bring back an old thread, but I don't think I've posted since the forums "refreshed" to this new look... whenever that was. Anyway, I use both. For general travel I like 3rd person. I like first person for melee weapons and, of course bow. Speaking
of bow, why -- when in sneak mode -- do you hold the bow gangsta style? I get that it serves as a differentiating thing and likely is done for effect, but how would one line up their sight? Granted, I don't think I shot a bow since I was 12, but it would never
occur to me to flip it sideways. One thing I will say too, for whatever reason, I like the first person view in this game and the Fallouts. For reasons unknown to me the bioshock first person makes me sick after 20 min or so. I don't really care for the Halo
first person views either. With Halo, I think it is mostly the colors and amount of movement that is distracting.

Edit: Wow. I'm back down to a "Level 2"...? Huh. And to think I was around back when people were looking for the Singing Sword in Fable. lol.

  15. Hi Ranch Tooth. I always assumed that the bow was sideways to avoid being detected. If you're crouching you want to keep things from sticking up above your head. You sight down your arrow if you want it to go where it's supposed to no matter how you orient
    your bow.

I wish I could do first person in Dragon's Dogma. I hate the way my character walks when she is hurrying so I end up walking sedately when I would rather run. I don't do melee and the one brawl I got into I didn't find third a great help in staying oriented
towards the guy I was trying to pummel.

I think that's why many didn't like the horseback riding in Oblivion. My son disliked it because he couldn't steer in first person. For me, since I have ridden horses, first person was natural and felt right. You put the crosshairs between the horses ears
and turn your head to where you want to go. Of course if you wanted to look around you had to stop but you have to do that on a horse as well or you'll find yourself in the rough.

    .

I tried third person in Skyrim when I had to have the fist fight in Markarth. It didn't really help me stay aimed at the fighter and it sure wouldn't help against Foresworn. I can handle third person in something like KoA or Arcania where I don't need any
finesse to swing my sword. I can just get in their face and whale away at the foe but that doesn't really work for me in Skyrim.

    First person or third?

I only go first person for bow shots.

For me, first person is hard to control. I feel like I'm walking around with blinders and no perception, and I die so often because I have no awareness of my surroundings in that view.

It's like trying to go through your day with your head in a carboard box with one side open a bit to see straight ahead.

That's how it feels for me. I rarely touch any game that's first person only.
