First name isn't valid

Hi all,

I've just bought a second hand Xbox 360 for my kids and I can't seem to sign up or sign in to Xbox live. I've tried via the recommended routes but whatever route i take I get stuck at the 'Enter your first name' box.

Whatever I put in, a message comes up saying 'That first name isn't valid on Xbox live'. I've tried lots of different names and names & numbers but none seem to work.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Hello there!

Could you please try checking if you are putting in any special characters or spaces, because that could be what is causing the issue for you.

You could try instead to set everything up on the website online if the Xbox is not letting you do it.

Yes, but it isn't really solve. I've trouble with registering on services like Call of Duty Elite; it will still not accept my name as first name.

The "Xbox name validator" should be aware of real names, perhaps they could use a white list.

Hello what i do is get on my Xbox 360 I connect to the internet and go to social then I press join the fun then I press sign up then it tells me to enter my first name I do then it tells me that first name isn't valid for Xbox live
