Fios remote not responding

When I have the set box connected via the xbox one my set box will not respond to my remote. I know the remote works, because when I disconnect the xbox from the set box it starts to work again. Here is what I have connected to the xbox one My provider
is: Verizon Fios Set box/receiver: HD dvr QIP 7216 p2 (Motorola) Remote: vs p265v3 rc (c2378) Yamaha receiver w/ s/pdif connector to the xbox Any suggestions?

How can I when the remote is not responding to any commands

 

Xbox One can't turn cable box on anymore

I have a Verizon FIOS cable box and at first everything worked fine. But after awhile, the cable box automatically goes into a screen saver mode where it wants me to press a button on the remote to start watching the channels. I don't seem to be able to
do this directly from the Xbox One and I can't use the FIOS remote either because the Xbox One seems to be blocking control from the original remote.

 

The remote does not work at all? No volume up/down, no stations, no nothing?

 

The responses from the remote are inconsistent.

One time you will hit "MENU" and it will just sit there and not take any other commands from the remote.

Then a couple minutes later it will take another command.

 

The odd thing is the Kinect has nothing to do with the factory remote. The one thing in common is they use the same IR code to turn the TV on/off, volume up/down, and mute. Menu is not an option (aside from 'detect it') during configuration to obtain the
correct IR code. The Kinect does not "take priority" over the factory remote or anything like that, it is a passive system. It could be a placement issue, where something is partially blocking the IR reader or the batteries on the remote are low.
