Finally got around to finishing Alan Wake and...

I loved it!! I started playing it back in 2010 when it first came out but for whatever reason I put it down and never got back around to playing it again until last week. I honestly haven't been able to put this game down... As soon as I completed the main
story I immediately went and downloaded both pieces of DLC, which were both great (The Writer > The Signal). The game is still quite the looker, the atmosphere is superb, the music was amazing (downloaded two of the Poets of the Fall songs), the gameplay was
simple yet intense, and the story had me hooked from the start.

My only gripes with the game were the lack of enemy variety, iffy controls at times, and the repetitive nature of the main story. The DLCs did try to mix things up a bit and added some variety to the gameplay but overall it pretty much the same. If I had to
give it a numerical score I would give it a solid 8/10. I would love to see an Alan Wake 2 on the Xbox One!! Also playing Alan Wake has gotten me excited for Remedy's other game, Quantum Break. Hopefully it'll be just as good if not better than Alan Wake.
If you haven't given Alan Wake a shot yet go ahead a buy it!!

^^^I never got to finish Alan Wake or RDR on the 360. Summer is not the time I play a lot (due to work), but this Winter I plan on finishing them both.

 

I thought it was okay. The story started out strong and then faded into unrecoverable vagueness.

 

Glad you enjoyed it Wolf, never played it myself but I am a gaming coward so horror games I usually skip bye lol. QB does look tidy so fingers crossed for that one, graphically it looks pretty amazing.

Does the end of Wake leave it open for a possible sequel? (spoilers not included lol).

 

I loved Alan Wake. Remedy are good developers.

 

@BizzaroMantis - The story was a bit vague in parts but it kept me hooked, the two DLCs also help explain the story more.

@GreyPilgrim - Without spoiling anything, yes, Alan Wake and it's two DLCs leave the story wide open for a sequel. Also I don't know if I'd say Alan Wake was much of a horror game, but it freaked my girlfriend out so maybe lol.

@brandiesel1 - Glad you loved it like I did, it was an amazing game. Hopefully Remedy can keep it up with Quantum Break and fingers crossed, Alan Wake 2.

 

Alan Wake is a great game, but you might want to play Alan Wake's American Nightmare if you haven't already Black Wolf. It kinda wraps up the Wake saga and ties up the loose threads... I'm thinking no sequel. {=D

 

I admit that I didn't play the DLC's. I know that one of them was created as a response to the outcry of those frustrated by the obscure ending, but I never got around to playing them. Maybe one day.

 

American Nightmare is absolutely brilliant in regards to a challenge. Getting 200/200 was immensely rewarding.

 

@Black Wolf..Heck yea glad you enjoyed Alan Wake i thought it was a sweet game..waiting to pick up the dlc's and roll through it again.

 

I've got to say that I loved this too, but the DLC didn't really do anything to elaborate on what Alan was going through, in my opinion anyway.

The DLC's for me begged more questions than they answered and I'm actually kind of annoyed they've left it open like that, but hey I knew this would happen when I was playing it and they said there would be no sequel, but the arcade game, which again, made
me ask more questions.

Ah well, hopefully one day there will be a number 2 as I would buy it in an instant.

 

^^ I'm with ya on that DA..Alan Wake 2 would be wicked. I really thought Alan Wake was the "different" game the Xbox needed and it disappoints me that this IP just kinda went quiet:/

 

AW was one of my favorite 360 games. My only gripes were: 1) On Nightmare difficulty, it's wayyyyy too easy 2) The number of collectibles 3) The platforming in the DLC is overly frustrating, especially when you're going for the achievement to not die
in the chapter.

 

Absolute top game.

The one thing I didn't like were the collectable pages which told you exactly what was going to happen next. Sure you didn't have to read them but that kind of defeated the purpose of finding them in the first place, reducing them to simple busy work.

Make the pages harder to find and if Alan found the page he should have been able to 'tweak' the story to give himself an advantage in the upcoming fight.
