Just announced for release in an upcoming update....

Media Player – A new app will be available soon that enables users to play media files from either an attached USB device or from a network connected home media server that supports DLNA protocols. The preview version of
the Media Player app will initially only support USB devices, with DLNA support coming soon. Xbox One will support more formats than Xbox 360, including support for dozens of new file formats like mpeg 2 TS, animated gifs and mkv which will be added by the
end of the year. See below for additional file formats.

Windows Media Player app for Xbone

When/IF Microsoft will be releasing WMP application for Xbox one? WMP was one of the best feature Xbox 360 had throughout the years of MS Xbox live.

MKV/VIDEO CODECS SUPPORT

From your pc open .mkv in windows media player and choose play to..xboxone... works, but qualety is real bad.

Lets hope MS gives us an xbox network media player APP

 

Finally! Now I can go out and buy an Xbox One. It's a great list of supported codecs, although I can't help but wish that .flac was included. Oh well, I'll take it!

 

Where is .flac support it cant be that hard.... all my music is flac on server it must be easy for them to do this. Great for new media player and better dnla support but really want flac

 

No FLAC certainly is a disappointment. FLAC is the most widely used and compatible lossless format on the market. I also believe FLAC has a smaller compression size then WMA. It's pretty lame that I would have to spend many hours and waste much hard drive
space to convert my music to an unpopular format just to use it on a device. It's pretty much the same reason I will never buy another iPhone since Apple makes you use their lossless format as well.

 

Just out of curiosity I tried converted 2 albums from FLAC to WMA Lossless and they only took around 30 seconds each to complete. File sizes are comparable, but I don't really want to create another 20+ GB of media just to be able to play in lossless.. Considering
FLAC is an open codec I would imagine that Microsoft could add support for it without having to pay royalties.

Microsoft could add support but they won't. That's the problem with big companies like Microsoft and Apple. They want their formats to be the household name. Microsoft probably wouldn't even support MP3 if it wouldn't cause so much outrage.

 

I'm looking for FLAC support also.

 

When I heard about all the new formats I started hoping that the Xbox One could become the one and only box in my living room. Unfortunately I'm finding that it still can't play a good 40% of the content I have on my home network. Please give us .flac and
better .mkv support!
