Fighting games, analog or dpad ?

I like the smooth accurate use of the analogue but concise movements like "back back" are very difficult for me. So I often use the DPad. what do you guys perfer ?

I want to buy a fighting game, Street Fighter 4 AE or Mortal Kombat 9?

Oh pro tip - invest in the controller that has the dpad pull out or in. Analogs do not cut it in MK where as in SF I could do ok with Analogs. MK a good Dpad is a must. you will find Analogs to be unplayable.

 

Before quitting a session, you save the game and...

And I'll add, even while fighting, keep hitting the DPAD for some hilarious dialogue

 

I never touch the dpad except for in certain menus where for some reason the analog doesn't work

I always use the D-pad when I play fighting games.

 

I've always use D-pad on fighting games, the analog sticks are horrible for them.

I actually use a little of both, but it also largely depends on the fighting game (for example, MKX makes it easier to use the D-pad with its special moves, which use a lot of B,F or D,F inputs for example, rather than the QCF or QCB that Killer Instinct
might use, which is easier to perform with the analog stick (or joystick). That's actually how I use them too. For moves with the QCF or QCB for example, I use the analog stick; for virtually everything else, I use the D-pad.

What I really want to try out is the new "flat" D-pad of the Elite controller that will be coming out later this year. Now, that will be interesting.

 

I use the dpad for MKX but in Killer INstinct it doesnt work right, 1/4 circle inputs never work unless you do it really slow and clear. The analog is completely opposite, I can be very sloppy and the move takes my inputs. But like you said I guess it depends
on the game. Thanks for all the input guys.

 

I think the last fighting game I played was Tekken Tag Tournament 2 and definitely find d-pad better, but sometimes accidently my thumb will slip back to the analogue stick as that is generally where it feels more comfortable/natural.
