  1. Fight stick issue 1: incomplete remapping

For the last couple years Sega Genesis games on the Xbox One have been unplayable.

I know how to use the Xbox One accessories app to remap buttons however it does not have complete freedom.

I understand the reason why you restricted the freedom because most users would benefit by it, like a guard rail preventing you from crashing certain games, but I as well as other Sega players on Xbox restricted by it.

The main problem is with a fight stick or with the pad with two rows of three buttons the left trigger and right trigger are always on the outside bottom row. (Reason why I say outside bottom row is because it's relative to whether you're playing left-handed or right-handed if you 180 the stick, and I usually play opposite handed. )

There's no way you could get two rows of three buttons being the main ABC and XYZ of the Sega Genesis in a layout that's familiar to back in the day Sega Genesis players.

The reason why this is because the controllers occupy two spots that are horizontally consecutive and they are only remappable with each other.

I tried writing Sega of Europe because, apparently the American division is just a sales division of Sonic merchandise, I brought it up two times. One time they said they'll advance it but the response seemed kind of automated. The other time they were suggesting I was suggesting new ideas for games which the letter clearly was not.

So Sega isn't going to fix their own game but that's what the Microsoft Accessories App is for.

I understand why you normally can't move the triggers on a normal basis because certain features must be analog in certain functions must be digital and if you mix them there'd be strange consequences in the game either run time errors or games that are functionally unplayable.

However there should be a check mark for All Digital mode which could let the triggers and non-triggers be freely remappable with each other.

I understand if you don't pick a specific kind of game that doesn't require certain analog controls, it could either cause a runtime error or make the game ludistically impossible.

In that case you could do either one or two things. You can have a "digital frendly" rating. Game developers and publishers can tell Xbox if the game is "digital friendly" "digital unfriendly" or "try your own risk." Anyone that doesn't have a specific digital friendly or digital unfriendly will response will get a "try at your own risk" rating by default.

Games where it'll cause one time errors or make the game impossible to finish can be rated digital unfriendly. Games where there are no known issues or games where digital and analog control exactly the same could be rated as digital friendly.

If they gave me plays digital friendly nothing special will happen when you boot the game. If it is digital unfriendly it'll return an error right away and send you back to the OS. If it is play at your own risk it says a warning saying "playing Games with All Digital controllers may arguably make your game unbeatable / unwinnable. Play at your own risk of virtual lives."

Oh by the way there's an easy way you can have an ambidextrous fight stick without wiring the circuit any differently for joystick. You just have to redesign the nine button arrangements to be more like that on sinistersticks.com (full disclosure: Sinister sticks is my personal website about being wrong handed, how the correct tools can help a wrong handed person in video games, and a possible solution)

The idea is simple just rotate the joystick 180° on the table so that the joystick is on the right and the buttons are mirror-symmetric to what they were in their normal left-handed stick arrangement.

    :)

No X-Axis flip on LS or RS

I see your point but I mean I want buttons to be remappable in general. Not sure who that really falls on the game dev or the company designing the console. I only want certain buttons remapped on certain games so I'm more inclined to put the responsibility
on the game dev, but some native remapping isn't exactly a horrible plan either.
That's why you can download the Xbox Accesories App for the One and remap controllers. Micorsot thought of a lot of situations.

But not every one It is an incomplete mapping system. I found 2 flaws. One is x-axis flipping, and the other is triggers only being remapped to triggers when an "all digital / Fight stick" mode is needed to complete the Accessories App OS remapping situation.

Since Microsoft tok it upon themseves to make their controlelrs all remappable, these are extra features that can be downloaded.

How Do You Flip the X axis on a USB controller plugged into the Adaptive controller

    Hi TripleTopper321

    Greetings!

Thank you for posting in Microsoft Community

I do understand the urgency of you wanting to find other ways for this issue of yours in regards with your controller. We are very glad to help you out to find some of the best possible options and troubleshooting's that we can provide for you.

I understand that you would like to have access to both the Xbox accessories app for the standard controller and the Xbox adaptive controller to be able to remap the x-axis of the sticks. I will do my best to assist you with this concern.

Now, to address your concern, the Xbox accessories app for the standard controller does not allow you to remap the x-axis of the sticks. However, the Xbox accessories app for the Xbox adaptive controller does allow you to remap both the x-axis and y-axis of the sticks.

To access the Xbox accessories app for the Xbox adaptive controller, you will need to connect the controller to your Windows 10 PC using a USB cable or Xbox Wireless Adapter. Once connected, you can download and install the Xbox accessories app from the Microsoft Store.

After installing the app, you can launch it and select the Xbox adaptive controller from the list of connected devices. From there, you can select the stick you want to remap and choose the "Remap button" option. This will allow you to remap both the x-axis and y-axis of the stick to any other button or axis on the controller.

Regarding your concern about remapping the x-axis of the right stick for camera controls, you can use the Xbox accessories app for the Xbox adaptive controller to remap the stick to your desired configuration. For example, you can remap the right stick's x-axis to the left stick's x-axis and vice versa.

As for remapping the x-axis of the left stick for a right-handed fight stick, you can also use the Xbox accessories app for the Xbox adaptive controller to remap the stick to your desired configuration. You can remap the left stick's x-axis to the right stick's x-axis and vice versa.

Thank you for reaching out and sharing your issue. I hope all of this information's are helpful. We look forward on your response.

Why is the Sega Genesis arrangement not possible on a fight stick?

    Hi TripleTopper321

    Greetings!

Thank you for posting in Microsoft Community

I do understand the urgency of you wanting to find other ways for this issue of yours in regards with your Sega Genesis arrangement not possible on a fight stick. We are very glad to help you out to find some of the best possible options that we can provide.

Firstly, it is important to note that the Xbox Accessories app is designed to work with all games on the system, allowing users to remap buttons and customize their controller settings. However, as you mentioned, there are limitations to remapping triggers to non-triggers or vice versa, as certain games require specific analog controls.

Regarding your suggestion of a "Digitize analog triggers" option in the Xbox Accessories app, this is an interesting idea that could potentially benefit users who prefer digital controls over analog. However, it is ultimately up to the game developers to decide whether or not they want to allow digital triggers in their games, as it could be considered not good in some cases.

In terms of your specific issue with remapping buttons on your fight stick for Sega Genesis games, it may be helpful to try using a third-party remapping software or tool that is designed specifically for retro gaming controllers. These tools often offer more flexibility and customization options than the Xbox Accessories app.

Additionally, you may want to consider using an adapter that allows you to connect your fight stick directly to your Sega Genesis console, as this would eliminate any compatibility issues with Xbox controllers.

Thank you for reaching out and sharing your issue. I hope all of this information's are helpful. We look forward on your response.
