FFVIII Remastered crash "can't open main.zzz file"

Hello everyone, as the subject implies, I'm having trouble with Final Fantasy VIII Remastered, the game runs fine at the beginning, but after a few minutes of playing the sound starts to glitch, as if the whole computer is going to crash, then the game sometimes just closes with no error messages and goes back to the launcher or it says that it can't acess or open the file called "main.zzz", I tried on my brother's computer and it works fine without any errors, so it must be something with my computer I believe. Also, when I save settings in the launcher it says "access denied" to the "config.txt" file at Documents/my games/FFVIII Remastered folder, even when I changed the owner to me, to the system, and so on, no matter what owner I assign to it it gives me this error, again, this doesn't happen on my brother's computer.

Anyone encountered this before or know how to fix this?

Any needed files just let me know and I'll provide them.

Have you tried to reinstall the game?

Before you do that, try this:

First, make sure your windows and all its services are up to date:

Open Settings, click Update and Security and then Windows Update;

Click Check for Updates;

Click the Download and Install Now option, if available;

Then try this:

Go to windows settings > apps > search for gaming services app > click on it and select advanced options.

After that click repair and then restore, open the app and try again.

If it still doesn't work:

In the windows search bar type Powershell > Right click and select open as administrator > Type the command: "get-appxpackage Microsoft.GamingServices | remove-Appxpackage –allusers" > Wait for the process to finish and then restart the PC and try again.

Also, that's very odd, I don't believe it's your GPU. This just happens with Final Fantasy?

Also, one thing we could, if you haven't already, is to restore your OS:

Step 1: Click Update & security on the Settings page to continue.

Step 2: Click Recovery and click Get Started on the right to continue.

Step 3: Choose Keep my files to reset your PC.

Step 4: Read the subsequent messages and click Reset.

After the computer has restarted successfully, you have refreshed Windows 10.

I tried all of these options and the problem still occurs, these are the common steps we always do when something like this happens, I dunno what is causing the problem though since now most times the sound just glitches, the game freezes and crashes to the launcher with no error messages or logs (from what I've seen).

I'm using a Radeon RX 580, my brother has a NVidia GPU, could this be the problem?

Both are Windows 10 too, but those "unable to read" or "access denied" error messages has nothing to do with GPU, so I'm really confused about this problem, I will setup a VM and try it there to see if it's a program or my AV or something that's causing this and post here after, although I too already tried to disable my AV to no avail.

But any other solution options is helpful in the meantime. Thanks!

I don't know, but I would have preferred an FFVIII remastered. A sequel might even come one day, but I wouldn't hope for it too much.

I apologize for the inconvenienced this has caused you. I will do my best to help you.

Please verify game file integrity because a corrupt game files can cause crashes. To do this, open the Xbox App. Locate Oblivion Remastered, click the Menu button (three dots), and select Manage > Files > Verify and Repair.

And then reduce the graphics settings in Oblivion Remastered such as lowering anti-aliasing, shadows, or texture quality. Run the game in Windowed Mode or reduce the resolution temporarily.

Next is to temporarily disable overlays such as NVIDIA GeForce Experience, Xbox Game Bar, or Discord that can interfere with gameplay.

Then test without mods. If you’re running mods in Oblivion Remastered, one or more mods could be unstable. Temporarily disable or remove all mods to see if the crashes stop.

After that is to update Windows and gaming services by going to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update and install all updates.

And to update Gaming Services through the Microsoft Store. Open the Store, search for Gaming Services, and update/reinstall.

If the issue persist after performing the troubleshooting steps, kindly uninstall Oblivion Remastered via the Xbox App. Restart your PC and reinstall the game.
