    Feedback on Process for Updating Xbox Live Subscription Payment Method


    I'll preface this by saying I wanted to submit this using the feedback survey that appeared when I first signed on, but the feedback survey only had comment fields for positive feedback. So here it is in the forums.

    I recently updated my payment method and it took 10 minutes and a lot of frustration to achieve. I almost canceled my XBox Live subscription because the cancellation process is easier than updating payment method.

    I'll qualify this by saying I didn't start at the "right" place - I tried to originally update my payment method from this page: Sign in to your Microsoft account. First I tried to delete my existing card. I couldn't because I hadn't changed
    my Xbox Live autopay method yet. I get this - you don't want me to cancel or have a late payment so you make me add a second card first. So I did that. That's where the frustration started.

    On the page above, I now have two payment methods entered, but I still can't delete the default card for xbox live, because I haven't changed the payment method to the new card. I look all over this page, and there's no intuitive way of changing the default
    xbox live payment method. I have to search and guess at links until I get to the page where I can update the default method to the new card, which is Xbox Live Gold kaufen – Microsoft Store de-DE.

    It would have been nice to have a link at the first Payment Options page that would take me directly to the Subscriptions Management page, instead of just saying "To remove this payment option, first change your subscription..." That prompt does not include
    a link nor does it tell me which Subscription it's referring to (in this case I know that it's my xbox live, but what if I had multiple subscriptions? Another prompt I received from one of the payment change pages was "This payment option cannot be removed
    as it is currently used for the following memberships:" then provides what appears to be a link to the Subscriptions Management page, but the link doesn't work.

    This whole process was very frustrating and I thought your developers might benefit from knowing which parts of this process are broken.

    One last note on this, I actually changed my card twice in a week because of the whole Home Depot hacking debacle, and the process was so confusingly unintuitive that it was just as hard to perform this task the second time as it was the first time, despite
    the events being less than a week apart.

    The payment method issue is separate from the Rewards program. For suggestions and feedback, you'd want to post at
    Xbox Ideas, powered by UserVoice The systems still processes free games as a regular purchase, so it would need a payment method on file to process the payment even if it's free.

    I'd honestly suggest calling in to the support line 1-800-4MY-XBOX and just asking them to switch you over to the new payment method. Less effort on your end and it's easy enough for them to accomplish.

  5. I have a similar problem i got on my xbox today and it says i have to update my payment option and until i do my account has been suspended... the problem is I still have a little over a month of Gold membership i dont use a card i use the ones from gamestop...
    i dont even know what to do know...

    I have a similar problem i got on my xbox today and it says i have to update my payment option and until i do my account has been suspended... the problem is I still have a little over a month of Gold membership i dont use a card i use the ones from gamestop...
    i dont even know what to do know...

    If you have the entertainment for all plan; that is, you bought your Xbox for 99.99$ and are paying a 15 $ Xbox live subscription monthly for two years, there is a possible explanation. If you have changed payment methods on your Live account, you will also
    have to change the entertainment for all Live subscription. It s my understanding it is a two step process. This is what fixed the problem or me two weeks ago. If this applies to you, I would call Live Support and explain you have the entertainment for all
    Live subscription, and tell them they ay need to update the payment subscription option.

    When you have charges on your account you have to update the account billing options to transfer the charges to a new payment method. This is usually the case if you buy something for your account using a credit card (Xbox Live Gold, Original Xbox DLC, etc.)
    To update your billing information for the account you need to go to the Microsoft billing site (https://billing.microsoft.com). You then need to sign in with your Xbox Live account. Under your payment
    methods, click the payment method you want to change. Under payment method activity, click go to payment method information. Under payment method information for this account, click use a different payment method. Enter a new payment method (credit card, Paypal,
    etc.) Once you update the payment method you will be asked which balances and services you want transferred to the new payment method. Once the balances and services have been selected click next and enter the payment information. The transfer may take up
    to a day to process. Once updated go back to the Xbox website and select My Account under your gamertag and then select Manage Payment Options. Then verify the payment methods for the account (you may have to re-enter the payment information on the Manage
    Payment Options page). You should then be able to purchase Xbox Live Gold using the new payment information. (You may have to cancel the old payment method on both sites as it may still be saved.)
