Essentially could end the use of throttling and data caps per so much a company can charge you and will also be presented to affect mobile date as well. I really the FCC will get this pushed and not let lobbyists get in the way of blocking anything that
could help us gamers entering the 50GB digital game age now. It still sickens me how much the big guys charge for data on cell phones now for every GB you use. Will definately want to follow this in the upcoming weeks.

    :)

  3. When are gamers going to stop saying "how high?"

When a developer charges a small fortune just for a videogame, with the huge amount of marketing and hype they put behind a game to push it's sales, you kind of expect it to not be as generic as the next game.

    Link from Wired article:

FCC chairman Tom Wheeler will be presenting proposed rules to the commission this week that will address the question of Net Neutrality, which has been a topic of discussion since a court ruling in January 2014. The move will seek to reclassify the Internet
    as an open platform.

Wheeler published his statement on Wired, stating that the rules will label the Internet as a utility and prevent throttling and paid prioritization of traffic. These rules will also apply to mobile broadband, a new move for the FCC.

Wheeler calls these rules the most aggressive protections the commission has ever put in place for protection of a level playing field on the Internet. A vote is likely to take place at the FCC’s February 26 meeting.

“The internet must be fast, fair and open,” Wheeler writes. “That is the message I’ve heard from consumers and innovators across this nation. That is the principle that has enabled the internet to become an unprecedented platform for innovation and human
    expression.”

Well I know one of the topics a few years back before this issue was pushed aside, was that the ability to deliver broadband to rural areas via normal power lines is a very plausible means to connect more people to faster internet.

It also means more government oversight, restrictions on what is allowed through the pipes ( using ambiguous terms like "lawful traffic" will not be impeded...leaving it up to government and the judicial system to arbitrarily decide what "lawful traffic
and speech" are defined as) but yes, as long as my netflix doesn't hiccup ....yay!

The reason why broadband over powerlines was dissallowed was because it was very messy in several bands of the radio spectrum. They could never get it to work clean.

I was on the fence about the whole net neutrality issue myself until I read this...as long as it doens't get anymore regulated other than by just reclassified as a utility, then I'll be estatic.

If they re-classify, the change will take over a decade to occur...look for litigation from the current providers to lock it up in courts until then. The FCC tried to do similar stuff five years ago and lost in court...Should be interesting to watch this

  10. I already know that I don't want a better connection. I NEED a better connection. My family's current network usage can't continue to support all of the things that my family enjoys doing online due to limitations. It's simply not enough.

  11. I sure hope it helps bring faster speeds all over. It's dumb how ISP's and cell phone companies get away with charging so much.
