    Faulty Xbox One and Warranty Confusion


    Hi,

    Not sure if this is the correct forum - didn't see a forum relating specifically to warranty questions.

    I'm a brand new Xbox user, just unboxed it yesterday, and my kids enjoyed it for about six hours before it turned off and wouldn't power on. After a couple hours testing, it was determined that the problem was the power supply unit. A real bummer, since
    this means no Xbox until we can ship it back and get a new one. But that's life.

    However, I'm going through the process of getting it returned, and I noticed that Microsoft provides a shipping label for the console and kinect, but not for accessories, such as the PSU. I'm confused by this, because I thought by law all such items would
    be covered through implied warranty. Anyway, I shipped the PSU and paid the cost, but I'm a little confused by this and am looking for clarification from Microsoft support or anyone who has been down this path before. Is it true that you can unbox a brand
    new machine, have it not work, and then be responsible for the indirect cost to get it repaired?

    Buy a warranty with your Elite Controller!!

    Anyway, glad you are inside on that warranty. Hopeful it was just a faulty controller and your new one will last you your lifetime.

    How long is the warranty on an advanced replacement?

    How did you determine it was the power brick? If you were chatting with support all information should of been discussed about shipping/return.

    -

    If bought direct fro a retailer.... return the whole works....

    -

    I bought mine via MS Canada, advanced exchanged both console and Kinect.... 100% happy with there support.... my advice is contact support and get clarification.....

    To answer your questions, yes I did speak with support and they informed me that only the console and kinect were eligible shipping labels. Since my problem was a power brick, I must cover the cost myself. While I pointed out that this went against many
    state laws of implied warranty, the best they could was advise me to take my concerns to Microsoft's legal department.

    Regarding the retailer (Walmart), there is a strict 15-day return policy. Seeing as this was a Christmas gift to my kids purchased around Black Friday, that option was not available to me.

    I'm glad you had a good experience with support though.

  6. While i can't speak to your state i can say in NH/MA it is in fact not illegal for a company to ask the consumer to pay for the shipping so as long as they cover repair/replacement of the product itself...Honestly i'd be curious as to which state you live
    in as this is the first i have heard of such a law. That said it's still a *** thing to do on Microsofts behalf. and i would have argued it also. My advice? If you are getting no where with support try sending a tweet to @Phil Spencer himself on Twitter
    he does actually listen and has responded to me on more than one occasion.

    Xbox One/S: Faulty disc drives,fautly network cards,Faulty HDMI ports at launch.

    Xbox One X: we'll see.

    Extended warranties are usually down to the seller to provide & organise.

    To be honest if you are in the U.K. then GAME would be a better bet,they offer a extended warranty at the same price as Microsoft & most of the time they will swap your console there & then in store if it develops a fault.
