Fan spinning faster than normal

some games push the APU more so that generates more heat and therefore the fan spins faster to expel air. the fan spinning faster is normal.

It is fine for it to run hot. A sign it's running hotter than normal for a Slim is if the fan sounds like it's spinning faster than normal and making a lot of noise. Fan speed scales with the temperature of the main processor to keep it within reason which
on a modern processor is ~140 Fahrenheit under load. If you feel around the case it should be cool except for above and below the main vent where it's dumping heat.

You have to be careful using third party fans, if the external fan makes the internal Xbox One fans spin faster than they are supposed to it could possibly damage it and causing more harm then when it's a bit warm. Alternatively when not spinning fast enough
it could cause hot air to be trapped inside making the Xbox overheat faster

The Microsoft guys are right, it is normal. Most of the time the normal speed of the fan will be enough to keep the system cool, but occasionally it will need to spin up faster in order to deal with a heat spike.

Many computer power supplies follow a similar system. Most of the time the fan doesn't even spin but once the temperature reaches a certain point, the fan spins up to keep the temps where they should be.

Got to give Microsoft credit where it is due, they've learnt a lot about cooling a system since the early Xbox 360 days.
