    Family permissions for Minecraft Pocket Edition


    I am trying to configure Minecraft Pocket Edition for my children to play on their iPads, and for an IT professional, it's an incredibly frustrating and unintuitive process that I was hoping someone could give some help with.

    I've set up a family account, and added both children to the family in https://account.microsoft.com/family. In https://account.xbox.com/settings,
    I've given them permission to see and upload community creations (under the Privacy tab) and to join multiplayer games (under the Xbox One Online Safety tab) and for online gameplay (under the Xbox 360 Online safety tab).

    However, when I then go to their iPads, I still see the perennial message-of-doom: "You cannot play online multiplayer because of how your Microsoft Account is set up. Review and change your privacy settings at aka.ms/accountsettings"

    Is there anyone who can give a definitive guide on setting this up? With the kids on coronavirus lockdown, this is driving me insane...

    Hopefully i can explain,

    1. Go to aka.ms/accountsettings and sign in.

    2. Go to Xbox One/Windows 10 Online Safety.

    3. Then at the top you can see:

    You can play with people outside of Xbox Live
    Decide whether to play with people on gaming services outside of Xbox Live, such as PC and PlayStation. This does not enable communication.

    4. Change that to Allow.

    Hopefully this works, if not please revert to the settings you previously had before.

    Minecraft realms issue

    I would think that lies in specific permissions for the realm? I would guess that it's not a setting on the Microsoft account itself, but how the realm is secured. I don't have a lot of first hand experience in this, but take a look at settings for the
    realm? Maybe invite yourself to the realm?

    Another thing to check would be what edition of Minecraft it is for the "Pocket Edition"? I'd check if there is a proper Minecraft edition on iOS which might cause the issue, as opposed to the Xbox One edition being the cause, it could be that there is
    a Minecraft (bedrock edition) which would be cross-platform, and not the "Pocket Edition"

    Let us know if that doesn't seem to be the case and we can see some other steps for investigation.
