Family/Parent/Child Accounts and Games for Divorced Family - across 2 Xbox Ones

I am not an Xbox One owner YET but here are some important questions I am trying to get an answers on:

    • For a Child to have an account (and I assume, therefore, access to his/her games) on two different Xbox One consoles, they would both have to be registered (?) under one Family Account. Correct?
    • Can the Family Account have 2 adults (the parents), with separate security/payment details? (i.e. one parent cannot see/use the payment credentials on the other parent account)
Here's why I ask. I am the father of a divorced family. My son is about to get an Xbox One soon at his mother's house - and I am making some assumptions that, if he were to buy any games - he should buy and register them under his own (Child) Microsoft
Account. If he does that, and I also purchase an Xbox One - as long as his mother and I are on the same Family Account, and we put my son under that Family account, he'll be able to play his games at either home.

On a related note - if the above were true - I also want to make sure that neither parent can see or use any stored payment credentials on the other (Adult) person's account.

Yes or no? If not, what is the solution - without my son having to have 2 separate Microsoft Accounts and having to purchase every single game twice - once for each account at each parent's house?

    Thanks for any help!

    :)

  2. Can't add a child to my xbox family

I am the parent. My account exists on both microsoft and xbox. I have a child account, which exists on both microsoft and xbox. The child account is a member of my microsoft family. The child is NOT a member of my xbox family. I cannot figure out how
to add the child account to my xbox family. I don not have an xbox console.

Child Account cannot play downloaded game?

Got a new Xbox One for Xmas. Came with a free download of Ori and the Blind Forest. Setup a Parent account and a child account on xbox live. Linked the child account through family function. Entered the code and downloaded last night from my parent sign
on. Now I can play the game but the child account cannot. Says the account that downloaded the game must login? I thought the whole concept with xbox family feature was whole household could play games if parent purchases them. Am I doing something wrong?
New to xbox and xbox live. Thanks

    Hey there!

    Thanks for the support message!

    • For a Child to have an account (and I assume, therefore, access to his/her games) on two different Xbox One consoles, they would both have to be registered (?) under one Family Account. Correct?
A child account HAS to be attached to at least one parental account in order to play online or sign up because legally a child can not accept the terms of use.

Can the Family Account have 2 adults (the parents), with separate security/payment details? (i.e. one parent cannot see/use the payment credentials on the other parent account)

Yes, you would just sign into the account at
    http://account.microsoft.com/
    to add a payment instrument.

I also want to make sure that neither parent can see or use any stored payment credentials on the other (Adult) person's account.

I recommend setting up the 6 digit passkey then on all accounts. Heres how: How to create an Xbox One passkey & Passkey Benefits
    on Xbox One

    Cheers!

"I recommend setting up the 6 digit passkey then on all accounts." - do you mean those passkeys are PER account - so each Adult/Parent account can have a different Passkey?

Also - not sure if you answered it but - can each Parent account have *separate* payment credentials on the accounts? (i.e. versus One payment credentials per Family Account; versus per Parent account)

Another related question - so ... can Mom's Xbox One have only the Mom's account and the son's (Child) account on it - while Dad's Xbox One have only the Dad's account and son's (Child) account on it? Or will both Xbox Ones automatically have BOTH parents
accounts on it because of the Family Account that the Child is under?

  7. When my x-wife tried this she got "child already in a family" message or something similar. From what I read if I add my x-wife to "the family" then she can join and then delete me as a member of the family. Is this correct? I think somebody needs to clarify
for every divorced member out there exactly how each parent can have all of their kids on each of their accounts without the other parent seeing their information and credit card data. Thanks.

    Hey there PC King Zombie.

If your account is already the main parent account in the family, adding another account won't give them the ability to remove you. Please make sure not to bump older threads, as this particular thread was created last year. So that we can best help out
