    FAMILY GAME SHARING ISSUES

I recently purchased an Xbox one for my son, and linked his and my box's together to family share digital games. He can download games from my box onto his with no issues. The problem starts when he wants to play any game that he's downloaded from my box.
He randomly gets kicked off the game, and the box tells him that the person who purchased the game needs to be logged in to play, which then I have to stop what I'm doing, so that he can log onto my account on his box, then go right back to his account. I
can't understand for the life of me that this would be an intended feature. The whole point of this was to be able to play the same game together, but we can't because he has to log onto my account every 20 minutes or so, just to play a game. It's not just
a 1 time log in either. This is a typical sequence of what happens...

He logs onto his account on his Xbox. Selects to play Destiny. The game says the person who purchased the game needs to be logged on to play this game. He logs on as me, then immediately goes back to his own account. He's able to play for 10-15 minutes,
then gets kicked out of the game with the box saying again, that the person who purchased the game needs to be logged on to play.

Please tell me there is an option somewhere in the settings that prevents him from having to constantly log onto my account to play a game. It's incredibly frustrating that I have to stop what I'm doing every 15 minutes so that he can play the games that
    he wants to play.

    :)

    Hello,

From the behaviour you describe, it sounds like your Home Xbox is his console, but his Home Xbox is also his console. I don't know if he's used the wrong account when changing the Home Xbox setting (signed in as himself, or maybe even signed into both accounts)
when he set his console as your Home Xbox, but it sounds like both profiles have the same Home Xbox designation.

This would explain why his console is able to play your games (it's your Home Xbox) but you need his profile signed into Live in order to play his games (it's not his Home Xbox).

I hope this clarifies things. It shouldn't be hard to correct if he uses his profile on your console to set yours as the Home Xbox (or, if you wish, you could even switch the consoles between yourselves). However, depending on how many times you've done
this already you may run into the three-times-per-calendar-year limit, though Phone Support will sometimes be able to reset this for you, at their discretion:

I'm so confused about this. No idea what is going on.

Added my bro in law account to my xbox, and vice versa. Set the opposite account as the "Home". For some reason, He can see all my games and play them. I cannot see his. If I log back into his account, I can see his games, download and play on his account.
Soon as I switch back to mine. They stop working.

We have tried removing accounts and reverting back to normal. Games don't work. Even did a memory reset to erase all account info and added the other persons first, That kind of worked. I could see all of his games, download and play. But as soon as
he updated his xbox with my account as home it stopped working.

If I log in and out as him, I can see his games on my account, but as soon as he logs back in, I lose the ability.

Again, we have verfied hundreds of times that our account is set as home on the opposite xbox and verified that the other persons is set as the home on our xbox.

What in the world is going on.....so annoying.

    Hi

Just to be clear. The parent account is designated as the home Xbox account. All the kids were added on as additional users. You redeemed the trial to the parent account? The same account as the Home Xbox account. How long is the trial? Trials can be limited
so that could be the issue.

Your feedback helped me understand one of the issues. The Xbox was just turned on and set up the past week and the subscriptions weren’t set for Gold Live yet as I wanted kids to get used to system 1st and not waste the trial. I thought they would have
been able to play on internet at least games we had with the free Live the system came with, but that isn’t the case.

I misunderstood Live vs Gold Live. Live allows some features for internet but not games. Only Gold Live allows the internet game play for the family share games. Subscription usage was the issue for online family share game play though officially since
    I didnt activate that yet.

Thanks all for quick responses! Sorry I didnt respond as quickly because I couldn’t get back to it until this weekend.

Going back in and officially setting up Home Xbox in parent account worked.

I dont know why the Xbox wasn’t officially set as home box from start when I 1st set up parent account as only account before setting up kids accounts, but I guess that default didnt take for some reason.

As for Xbox Live, I misunderstood Live vs Gold Live. Live allows some features for internet but not games. Only Gold Live allows the internet game play for the family share games.

Thanks all for the quick responses! Sorry I didn’t respond as quickly as I just couldnt get back to it until weekend.

    Hi there,

if the codes were redeemed on the parental account and that same account has set the console as Home console, then any other profile/account on that console should be able to use the games that are owned digitally by the parental account, they should also
be able to use Gold features like online gameplay.

The console needs to be connected to Xbox Live though for this to work.

Please see this link for more information regarding the Home console setting and how to check if it's set as Home console for the parental account:

    https://support.xbox.com/games/game-setup/my-home-xbox

and for some more info this link too:
    https://support.xbox.com/xbox-one/xbox-live/xbox-live-gold-sharing-features

So if the console is connected to Xbox Live and the account that was used to redeem the codes has the console set as Home console, then the kids should be able to use those games. Same for Gold/Game pass subscription if present on Parental account

Regarding disc based games, the disc need to be inserted to play the game for any account.

    Let us know the results
