Sorry to hear you're having trouble. I'm afraid that two people cannot use the same account to play at the same time. Each person would need to have their own account. However, if you have a gold membership and they are part of your family the membership can be shared to him so he can play at the same time.

As for your son, you can download the Xbox Family app on your mobile device so you can easily access his permissions, etc.

Thanks so much for the response. To be extra clear, I'm not curious about COOP in general, but couch coop in specific - two people playing seated next to each other with controllers plugged into the computer. Is that possible if the title supports couch/local COOP (e.g. 'It Takes Two' supports local coop on an Xbox console, so does the PC game pass version support the same feature?)

no it's not cheaper than the family plan. 2 xbox gold accounts is 120/yr. Under the family plan you got 4 gold accounts for 99/yr.
