Family account - child phone number

Just bought my son a XBox One S. He set up his profile as a child and myself the adult. He added his new phone number when asked (for security contact ). The next day , he received a phone call. No one knows his phone number in the world besides me and
his dad. Why was his number given out? Is he going to receive calls from companies or was it someone who knew he was a child. The person hung up as I asked the call. When I tried to call back it said the phone was disconnected. Please explain.

    :)

  2. Child account

There is two ways that MS determines if an account is a child account.

    1. DOB on the account when the account is originally setup.

    2. If it is in a family as a child account.

Until an account reaches its 18th birthday from the DOB when it was originally setup it is REQUIRED to be in a family as a child account.

It will NOT always graduate to an adult account once it hits 18 sometimes you have to sign into any adult account at account.microsoft.com/family and remove the child account from the family at which point
it will be put into its own family as an adult

Keep in mind that it will allow you to remove the child account from the family even if the DOB is under 18 but the child account will NOT be able to do anything until its added back to a family as a child
    account.

So in your situation the first thing I would try and do is sign into the adult account at account.microsoft.com/family and remove the child account from the family and see if that fixes your situation.

  3. Can't allow an exception for a game on a child account.

I'm wondering if there's something that tells Live that the account is a child other than just being listed as a child account in a family? When not in the family under my account, the child account seems to have full privilege to set it it's own family,
set content restrictions, etc. The DOB is set so the child is clearly under 18. Is there something else that the child account could be missing?

Family account - child phone number

The phone number in the Security Proofs is used as just that, a security proof as a location to help you verify your account.

Go back through the process to add a phone number and you'll see this

    Add security info
We won't use this to spam you—just to keep your account more secure.

It doesn't matter that only two people only know a phone number that you just received. It may have belonged to someone else for years before then.

How to update child’s date of birth as greyed out on account.

Hi Vicky M, my name is Courtney and I would be happy to help.

I am sorry that you are having this problem, to change your child's date of birth you must be the primary guardian of the family and your child must be included there. If you have not done this, follow these steps:

First, you need to create a family group, go to http://family.microsoft.com. Select Create a family group. Sign in or create a Microsoft account. Add family members by email or phone number to create your family group. Next, add the child's account, and you can then edit the child account settings as needed.

If you have any other questions, you can contact me again. We will gladly continue to help you so that you can change the date of birth on your child's account.

    I hope this helps!

Unable to figure out who is in the family group.

Hello, My name is Jesse. I'm an Independent Advisor and a member of the Microsoft community and I'd love to assist you today.

First I'll suggest she tries to recover the account that is the family organiser. The only way to recover an Xbox account is via the account recovery form here https://account.live.com/password/reset

You can try all the emails you remember or if you had a phone number attached to the account, you can use that too.

Once it has been recovered, then she can use that to remove the child. Unfortunately the child cannot remove himself from the family group due to Microsoft's policy.
