False DNS Errors

I turn on my xbox, i'm connected to Xbox Live. I try to play a game or something, and it tells me I lost connection. I test the connection and it says that my DNS setting is incorrect, even though I have it set to manual, so only I can change it. The DNS
setting was the same when I was successfully connected to Xbox Live, but now it's telling me that it's incorrect, and that I should try an automatic DNS setting. I set it to automatic, and it automatically sets my DNS to the SAME setting, and I successfully
connect to Xbox live. When I try to start up a game, I lose connection. I test the connection, and it says that the DNS setting is incorrect, and to try a manual setting. Saying that this is making me furious is an understatement. I am one error message away
from tearing my xbox from the cords and throwing it out the window. In a shorter sentence, its basically telling me "DNS setting is incorrect, even though it hasn't changed and you were just connected to Live a minute ago" Somebody please help me before I
break my xbox into a million pieces.

Hi there, you mentioned you put in a dns, have you tried the automatic setting?

Will you try this wizard here?

And are you using wired or wireless?

Ok, I have a serious question.......my Xbox keeps saying dns error but yet I have the correct dns put in.......I have went on my pc and did the command prompt code to get all of that, however,my other devices are able to get on....I'm on my iPad right
now,my kindle is working on it, do is my iPod....the only things not working are my Xbox and my windows computer....I need help and fast because right now, I'm paying for gold and I'm not able to use it...my legit account is VandyMan3(the one not working),
but I have a free live membership at my dads house and that's the account I'm using to type this massive question up......I'm 14 and I feel like I'm being ripped off a little because I own my own lawn mowing business and this is money that I have worked for
in 100 degrees and hotter to pay for this....I'm kinda very mad.....in the morning though I'm gonna try unplugging the router but I need some other soloutions! Thank you in advance to any one that replies ASAP

If you haven't alrady, or even if you have, try the following steps and let me know how that goes and we'll go from there.

Go to Xbox Network settings and select Configure Network. Select the
Additional settings tab and Restore network settings to factory defualts.

Clear Xbox system cache (3 times in a row)

1. Press the Guide button on your controller, go to Settings, and select System Settings.
   
2. Select Storage or Memory.
3. Highlight any storage device, and then press Y on your controller.
4. Select Clear System Cache.
5. Repeat this process Three times in a row.

Turn off your Xbox.

Power off your router and modem for a couple of minutes. Turn on your modem and let it sit for a minute, followed by the router (one minute).

Turn on your Xbox and go to Xbox Network settings and select
Test Xbox Live Connection.

Let me know how that goes.

 

Will this just change my xbox back to the default settings, or will it wipe out everything on my xbox, like saves, profiles, etc?

 

It will only affect your console's IP settings. Your profile and saved games will not be affected.

 

Clearing the xbox system cache will only delete temporary stored data in the system cache.

 

I tried this and it didn't work. I tried deleting my profile, it didn't work, and now i can't stay connected long enough to re-download my profile so I can play offline games

 

Can you try set your console's DNS settings to Google public nameserver and let me know how that goes.

1. Press the Guide button on your controller, go to Settings, and then select System Settings.
   
2. Select Network Settings.
3. Select Wired Network or the name of your wireless network, if you are prompted to do so.
   
4. Select Configure Network.
5. On the Basic Settings tab, select DNS Settings.
   
6. Select Manual.
7. Select Primary DNS Server.
8. Enter 8.8.8.8
9. Select Secondary DNS Server.
10. Enter 8.8.4.4
11. Select Done again.
12. Press the B button on your controller, and then select Test Xbox LIVE Connection.
    

 

Changing the DNS settings to 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 didn't work either.

 

Appreciate if you can post up the make and model of your router and your modem as well (if this is not a single unit).

Go to Xbox Nework settings and select Test Xbox Live Connection and let me know if you see any Connection error related to the DNS, or your NAT's behavior.
