Fallout 76 - Price Drop and refusal to honour discounted difference on new price

As a very long time, loyal customer to Xbox and Microsoft in general I am very disappointed in the customer service received when I asked for a refund of the difference in price on a new release game that was immediately price dropped.

I pre-purchsed Fallout 76 through Xbox Live, and now, less than a week after the game launches it is already discounted to something like 40% of the price on Xbox Live and further discounted in brick and mortar stores. Any brick and mortar competitor worth
their salt (see: BestBuy) would take this into consideration and refund me the difference in price. The game is brand new, why would ANYBODY at all purchase this game at launch (let alone, pre-purchase with ZERO pre-purchase incentive) if they knew one week
later they could save almost half the cost?

I started a ticket through the Customer Service window and was allowed 150 characters to try to explain my case. Naturally, it was closed immediately with a simple, "We reviewed your request for order XXXXXXXXX on
11/12/2018 and found it’s not eligible for a refund based on Microsoft Terms of Sale" explanation. Nobody reviewed anything. There was no attempt to contact me for further explanation. Someone looked at the request, said no and closed
it. This does not give me a lot of faith in the Microsoft brand and desire to do business with you in the future. If Microsoft and Xbox Live cannot take responsibility for the prices on their products, and honour the basic tactic of giving the consumer the
better price (if purchased with x days of a price drop), I cannot continue to support the brand.

Why am I purchasing a year of Gold Live membership ahead of time? Why am I purchasing a year, up front, of Game Pass? Why did I buy an XboxONE at launch, then upgrade to an S and then further to an X? If this company is unwilling to support their customers,
this customer will have to think harder about supporting this company in the future.

Wrong price or less discount in Brazil!

If you're comparing the 2 prices shown on the store, the first price is the discount for non-gold members, not the regular price. So you're just seeing the difference in price between the gold discount and non-gold discount.

 

What are you hoping to get this year?

Im hoping to pick up a 2nd Xbox One X for my partner in the black Friday sale. Ive heard of a rumoured price drop to £300. That would be great if its tru. As for game I already have what I wanted the power Armour edition of Fallout 76.

The game is on sale already? That's bad. Hopefully you get a refund, but I wouldn't count on it.

It's best to avoid preordering.

Sadly sometimes this is just how it happens. I think the mega price drop on sale was due to Fallout 76 in general getting really bad reviews from both gaming outlets and user reviews alike. You could always speak with MS Customer support again but unfortunately
this happens sometimes, I have had it happen with me more times than I can count!

The best way to request a call back and get with a support agent is to:

When you go to
Contact Us to get it to request a callback follow these steps:

• Step 1 ----select Xbox One
• Step 2 ----select no thanks, then select category system update
• Step 3-----gives some troubleshooting or help tips
  
• Step 4 ----select request a call from support

Once they call explain the issue and they will be able to help you. When you pre order a game you do get incentives for pre-ordering. The sale was also due to black Friday. A lot of games were on sale that day.

Some stores do price-match within a limited period of time, but others (including the Microsoft Store) do not. Sales occur frequently, even on product that is selling well and has good press.

Looking at some of the sites you mentioned, the price of the game has returned to US$59.99, so it would appear that the recent price drop was part of Black Friday/holiday sales and not an adjustment to compensate for poor sales numbers.
