Fallout 4 Failing to Save Files

I was asked by one of the forum people to start a new thread for this, so here goes.

Fallout 4 does not save, but instead gives an error message claiming there is no room on the drive and I should use the system file management tools to clear space. The problem is that there's 250 GB of free space on the main internal drive; clearly, space
    is not the actual problem.

Both I and my son have the same issue. Sometimes, deleting some of the existing auto and exit saves, and having no more than 2 older saves for each character, would allow a new save to be created. But even that no longer works.

I've seen suggestions that unplugging the ethernet cable once the game is launched will fix the problem; it does for ONE save, then the next time the game tries to auto save it simply crashes to the XB1 desktop.

I've also seen suggestions that a proper power reset (unplugging the supply, waiting at least 15 s, and powering up again) should fix the problem; it doesn't.

Looking through a number of sites shows that this has been a recurring issue with FO4 on XB1 for at least 2 years.

Is there an actual, working, permanent fix for this, or do I and my son have to give up playing this game?

    :)

    Fallout 4 save files

I've contacted support and they tried everything to get my save files back. I'm missing about 6 hours worth and they said it might be a syncing problem.

If you have multiple characters you may need to go to Load and press Y to see missing character saves. I'm more inclined to think Baza is correct with the syncing explanation.

    Hi there

Fallout 4 only let's you save a certain amount before it no longer let's you save even if you have lots of HD space.

Also if you are using mods for the game some mods you can download sometimes stop the game from saving.

If you are using mods you could try deleting some of them and trying to save the game again just in case it is a mod that you have installed

One account has four characters with 1 save each - this one cannot save at all. This profile has mods downloaded on some saves, but having mods or not doesn't matter in the sense that even characters run without mods can't create new saves without crashing
    hard.

The other account has maybe 8 or 10 saves across 4 characters (only 1 with a couple of mods enabled) and, last time I played, would save some of the time if you periodically delete auto saves and exit saves.

Neither account is that big - 200 MB at best. On one account, there are no saves left to delete without completely deleting the character.

Edit: Just checked. The first account has 45.3 MB of actual save data on disk, the second has 130.2 MB. Deleting existing saves to "free up space" as the game suggests does not fix the issue. And it's the account with the fewest MB of save data that's
    having the biggest problem.

There's also two blocks of "Reserved" space. One is sitting at 2 GB, the other at 0.3 KB. It's not clear what this space is for, but I believe it's for the downloaded mods. Can anyone confirm that? I really don't want to start deleting things if I don't
    know what they are.

Disconnect your Xbox from the network so it is offline.

    Load Fallout

It should default to looking at your local save files. Load the latest one and you should hopefully see your save with latest progress.

Load up that save file and then reconnect to the Internet.

Then save you game again, you might see a version difference pop-up and make sure you select the option of using your local save as the primary and the cloud should get updated with that correct save.

You may need to load up a few of the save files to find the one you want as Fallout 4 creates multiple saves.

If the save isn't available locally, it is likely your progress is lost unfortunately.

    It's sad time

I've accidentally deleted save files on Fallout 4 and Skyrim with over 50+ hrs on them.
