fallout 3 downloaded, says disc unreadable

Just bought fallout 3 and waited for 6 gig download and started it up and got to main menu and can mess with options and as soon as I press new game it goes to the loading screen for about 2 seconds then it says disc is unreadable clean with a cloth. Tried
multiple times, all same result. My other games work fine, downloaded or disc. Have all updates that im aware of. . Please help before my girlfriend kicks my *** for spending money on a game I can't even play

I Just downloaded saints row 2 and it says unreadable disc while it's a downloaded version.

Sorry to hear you are having issues with Fallout 3.

To be clear, you have downloaded the game from the Xbox Marketplace right?

If yes, are you able to do following:

1. Delete the game from your hard drive.
2. Clear your system cache 3 times.
3. Download the game again. You can find this in your download history: Xbox Home - Settings - Account - Download History.
   

Please let us know if this works.

 

Ok, uninstalled, cleared system cache three times, redownloaded. Same exact error message.

 

It sounds like a problem with the data that the download gave you. Go to your storage device and find the game. Then just delete the TITLE UPDATE ONLY. If their are more than one title update then delete those also.

 

Follow thunders advice above but bf downloading fallout again download a demo or demos about the same size once that is done go ahead and download fallout again. Doin this moves the corruption to a different sector of your hdd. Feel free to delete the demos
when the process is complete

Okay, so I got it to work. After several times of deleting and re-downloading the game, along with clearing the cache without success...I finally got a USB flash drive large enough (mine was 15 GB) and downloaded it straight to the USB. However this is
not as easy as it may seem since xbox defaults to the hard drive and you cannot set the destination for downloads - which is absurd!

The work around for the download is to start downloading something else (demo, video, etc) that go to the game download (fallout 3 in my case) and start that download. THAN in your active downloads page the game should be "pending", now you can click on
it and change the storage device.

I played 2+ hours last night without any errors. I'm afraid to download it to the HDD...so I will probably just play it from the USB. But seems MS should be able to fix it.

 

BTW, the reason to download it straight to a separate storage device is that my understanding of the problem is that some file is corrupted on the main HDD and when you delete it...that file remains on the HDD. And every time you re-download, it uses that
same corrupted file.

So by downloading the file somewhere else, you FORCE the system to download a new, un-corrupted file. Hope that all makes sense.
