    Failure of Factory Reset on Xbox One S through USB (Offline Update)


    Hello. So I don't know what is wrong, did all what was supposed to do I guess and still there's a failure in Factory Resetting the Xbox One S through USB (Offline Update). I downloaded the Factory Reset file on PC, formatted the USB Key into NTFS, copied $System-something folder, and then plugged to the Xbox as it was turned down. Ensured as in instruction that it's turned off, and then clicked on right buttons and everything would be ok, but then after 'searching for update', it suddenly tells me 'failure' for Offline Update with either error 101, 102, 100 and so on. Why it happens so? I tried even other USB key, thinking the one I used that wasn't recognizable but that wasn't the case. It seems that my Xbox won't allow for Offline Update? Anyone has an idea what's wrong? Adding that in such case even replacing hard drive wouldn't help if it wouldn't allow Offline Update either.

    Hello. Can someone tell me what is the difference between FactoryReset and OSU1 files? Why FactoryReset has only 20 Mb and there's only one file there, while OSU1 is 6,5 GB around and there are lot of files?

    You're right! By resetting the console removing everything this will delete everything as if you have a brand new console.

    And there we go to the point, that I am unable to do Offline Update nor Offline Reset...

    So as I understand, the Offline or Through Settings Factory Reset doesn't makes any difference?

    As I said, I thought that Offline Setting for Factory Reset would make it like Reinstalling System provided by Xbox Site.

    I mean, actually I let someone else use the browser on this Xbox, and as I don't know what someone browsed there, adding that someone didn't use the Windows Defender Security on the Edge, or whatever there is, I wanted to do a Fresh Factory Reset from USB file just to make sure there would be no issues, no risk of viruses and anything that would be possible on Xbox.

    So I thought that reinstalling the system from USB from Xbox official site, would give me the feeling 'out of the box' and the fact that it would be just like a Clean Install like on Windows :) So, no worrying about viruses or possible other issues :)

    Absolutely. Usually, we use the offline update and offline reset if the console can't be access through settings due to a system issue.

    Yes, but if it's not working it may mean that there is now an issue with the Xbox and it may need to get repaired.
