Failed updating for connecting to the Xbox Live.

I have tried every troubleshooting steps for the error, and did not work out. Error code is 40A3-4174-1380-267F-C000-0185. The downloading process is fine until it gets to the where the system said "Applying update, please wait...do not shut down the console",
and all the sudden the failed message pop up and the update failed. I haven't connect to the Xbox Live for about 4 months. I can play the games offline just fine. Please help, I pay the yearly gold membership for nothing.

Try the following steps in an effort to resolve your situation.

Let us know how that goes and we'll work from there.

Go to Xbox Network settings and select Configure Network. Select the Additional tab and
Restore network settings to factory defaults.

Go back to System settings and Select Storage. Highlight your primary storage device and press "Y" on your controller. Select
Clear system cache. Repeat this process 3 times in a row.

Turn off your console.

Power off your modem and router for a couple of minutes.

Power on your modem and wait one minute for it to connect properly and proceed with your router and wait another minute.

Turn on your console, but do not apply the system update (yet). Instead, Go to Xbox Network settings and select Test Xbox Live Connection. After the test has been finished, apply the system update, to be installed on your console.

I did all the steps but it failed again with the same code.

I found out even though I restored the network setting to factory default and cleared the cache, the Xbox still connected to my old house WiFi automatically after I restarted.

 

If it's possible, try connect your console with an Ethernet cable, instead of wireless connectivity and let us know if it let you download and install, to the most recent update.
alternatively, you can also try delete a portion of the system update installed on your console. Afterwards, try process the update.

How to remove system update

Go to System Settings and select Storage.

On your controller, press the following button sequence:

Press the left bumper.

Press the right bumper.

Press the X button.

Press the left bumper.

Press the right bumper.

Press the X button.

Restart your console and try update.

If the above solution is not an option for you, try update the system manually, by copying the update to a FAT32 formatted USB drive. Here's how!

to my old house WiFi)?

Two options here: Either you console cannot reset its network settings to factory defaults, or that your wireless network has not been configured with a security method and passphrase.
