Factory reset by Microsoft during repair, all game saves now lost.

I sent console in for disk player not reading disk. I have been off line with my console for three months due to no internet, all my games are backed up on a 2TB external HDD (50+ games). All my game saves where on the console. I now have lost 90+ days of
completed status on several games. My question is why do the games only save to internal HDD, even when external is set to save new data by default? I know now that I should have got online right before sending it in for repair, lesson learned the hard way.
What was the point of resetting my console for a disk player replacement?

Factory Reset question please help

Hi, I have just done a factory reset on my console ( 4 profiles, over 4 games).

All game saves, for all profiles, have re-sync'd with the cloud when each game has been opened for each profile. I too was concerned that I would lose single player game saves ( it doesn't help that Microsoft support website contradicts itself when it says
that all game saves are lost on a factory reset), but in the end I did a factory reset and it fixed our game save/playing issues. It's just a pain and soooo time consuming having to reinstall everything! Why can't Microsoft create a restore point system for
the console? Hope this helps.

 

Controller says on but its not

Soft reset hold down X1 power button for 8 seconds, nothing lost.... If a hard reset is needed that is a factory reset and you will have to enter data that was erased during the process. Information, like game saves, etc will redownload once you log back
into live.

 

To prevent leaking your private info like accounts

By default any warrantied product has to be cleared for personal info or it gets wiped

Xbox also tells you in the shipping instructions before

A you may not get the same console but even a replacement maybe sent to you

You wouldn't want to have someone across the world with your account

With most consoles they just get replaced

 

If you use an external device for your default device for downloads, then game saves should go there as well. Or maybe save to both just in case. That is my point, it is just frustrating to lose progress on your games when it could have been saved elsewhere.
