Fable 3 (physical copy) on Microsoft 10 - unplayeble due to GFWL verification, etc.

Hey there,

there might be already a lot of questions about this topic and I really tried EVERYTHING to get my copy of Fable 3 to work:

- I tried starting the game and GFWL in the compatibility mode for Windows 7

- I resetted the system date to the release date of Fable 3 (26.10.2010)

- I tried using this little tool for removing the GFWL verification (http://timeslip.users.sourceforge.net/current/fable3-xlive.7z)

- I uninstalled and reinstalled both, the game and GFWL various times

And none of that worked. So I am getting really pissed right now. I LOVE the fable franchise and wanted the play the game during the christmas days but nope - won't happen.

So I asked myself if this is even legal, so shut down the verification server for games which are STILL beeing sold? And even if - is there a chance to get a refund or a new code (for example for steam) in exchange for the one I bought years ago?

Because if so, I would like to have either my money back or a LEGIT way to play a game which I bought LEGALLY.

Please, Microsoft, you can't be serious with this ... Give me something I can work with!

Thanks for coming to the forums. Unfortunately, The GFWL was discontinued a while ago. Personally know that disk copies are especially hard to play. Even if owned it digitally there have been issues due to the service no longer exists. Unfortunately, there
would be no way of getting a code for the game as a swap. You would need to purchase the game digitally for this. For example the game currently is on the Xbox one game pass. As for game pass for PC this is new and games are being added all the time.

Remove everything related to "zdp" from your game folder (the "zdp" folder and any .zdp files).

Then install the latest official Title Update for Fable 3 using "setup.exe" from this archive: http://download.xbox.com/content/4d53090a/tu10000083_10000283.cab

The game should be playable after that.

Technically it's not a 100% legit way as you're circumventing the release date verification-decryption process, but considering the ZDPP services are not functioning again (thanks Microsoft...), this is the only way to play the physical release of the game.

I'm having the same issue, ever since they cancelled GFWL i can't get Fable 3 to verify, though any titles i own on steam that require GFWL seem to have to trouble launching or verifying, and no Fable 3 is not one of those titles. i hope microsoft sees this
and can get this sorted out or come up with a solution soon cause as it stands i see it as i wasted money on a game that i can no longer play due to third party software that is required but is no longer in service.

So, just tried to load up my Fable 3 install that used to work and couldn't load save due to DLC authentication (its all installed).

tried to reinstall gfwl but no matter what I do I get the,

"There was an error retrieving your purchase history. Please sign out and try again later"

All I want to do is re-authenticate/download my Fable III DLC, I have tried uninstall gfwl/ reboot / reinstall also tried that with compatibility win 7 settings on gfwl client....

Such a crock that this is even a problem. Don't we love digital content and the cloud, This makes me even less likely to ever buy anything from the windows 10 marketplace, what a bitter flavor of loss :/
