Extra password for Xbox One use only

Hi,

I got my xbox one for my son a few years ago, and set up the account using my microsoft login information. He has all his games saved under my microsoft account. Recently he's been constantly asking me for my password, which is the same as my hotmail password
and I hesitate giving it to him. Is it possible to set up a separate Xbox One password that will only give him access to his gaming info? Thanks

How to password protect your Xbox LIVE profile

Xbox LIVE password overview

It is possible to download your Xbox LIVE profile to several different consoles. You may need to do this if you have more than one Xbox 360 console, or you want to play games at a friend's house. In such a situation, you may want to password protect your Xbox LIVE account so that no one else can sign in using your profile.

Set the console to remember your password

Once you have downloaded your Xbox LIVE profile to a console, you will be asked if you want the console to remember your password. The Remember Password option is usually off by default. This means that you will be asked for your Microsoft account password every time you sign into Xbox LIVE.

If you don't want to be asked for your Microsoft account password every time you sign into Xbox LIVE, select the Remember Password option.

Change the password protection on your profile

You are required to set the Remember Password option after you download your Xbox LIVE profile. However, you can change the password protection on your Xbox LIVE profile any time.

If you don't need a password to sign in:

Sign into your Xbox LIVE profile. After you have entered your Microsoft account password, select the Remember Password option.

If you choose the Remember Password option, you will not be asked for your Microsoft account password the next time you sign into your Xbox LIVE profile.

If you need a password to sign in:

You can restrict access to your Xbox LIVE profile on any console using your Microsoft account password.

Steps to follow

1) Sign in using your Xbox LIVE gamertag.

2) Under Settings, select Account and then Account Security

3) Choose the option for Password at Sign In.

4) Select Require Password Here

You will be asked for your Microsoft account password the next time you sign into your Xbox LIVE profile.

How to password protect your Xbox LIVE profile remotely

If you downloaded your Xbox LIVE profile to another console and it is not password protected, or someone has compromised your password, you can change the password from a remote location so that no one else can access your profile.

Change your Microsoft account

1) Sign into accounts.live.com using your Microsoft account.

2) Go to Account Information and, next to Password, click Change.

You can also use your console to change your Microsoft account password.

Note: If the Xbox LIVE profile you downloaded does not require a password to sign in (You selected the Remember Password option), you will not be able to restrict someone from signing into your Xbox profile even if you change your Microsoft account password.

You can remove your Microsoft account password so that other people cannot access your Xbox profile on other consoles. This will ensure that a password is required before signing into your Xbox profile.

Remotely set a profile password from a computer:

1) Sign into your Xbox LIVE account.

2) Under Settings, select Account, and then Account Security

3) Choose the option for Password at Sign In.

4) Select On All Other Consoles.

Once you have done this, a password will be required to sign into your Xbox LIVE profile on all other consoles.

 

Oh great, my account got Fifa hacked

Don't use the same password for different accounts and sites.

It is EA's fault as they got hacked and people are trying EA password and email addy's on XBOX LIVE and if they are the same they will take your XBL account!

You have to take extra care in todays world to make it harder for people to steal your accounts!

Not for the same account. What you might do is change the e-mail address that you are using for your XBOX One and give it a different password.

If you just change the e-mail address and password that he uses to sign in with then his game data will follow. Don't create a new profile just modify the existing profile.

 

I'm not sure how to change the email the account is linked to. Are you sure this is possible?

Please be aware, once you have created another email address. Please be sure to sign into it once every 50 days. Otherwise, if you don't sign into a Microsoft account from a web based browser (Through either: outlook.com or account.live.com) for no more
then 365 days. The system removes the email address and closes the account.

Although it does not remove the Xbox Live Account. It does, however, raise problems. By having no Microsoft Account, you don't have purchased content/membership etc... The Gamertag has no Microsoft Account connected to it, there for, you are not able to
sign into Xbox Live.

Just wanted to point that out as some members often do come and post about how they can't sign into their Microsoft Account, and thus been the reason why 99% of the time.

Thanks for the heads up. I'm not sure the link above will help me with my problem. I'm looking to change the email that's associated with my xbox live account only, not my Microsoft account. I've done a bit of digging, and according to the following link
it looks like I can do it from our Xbox 360, but not Xbox one:

I'll try it tonight when I get home, I just hope the change takes effect on the Xbox One as well (I'm pretty sure it will)

You can change the sign in preferences, so your son, or you, can enter a passcode for the account. This way, he will not need to have your password for your Microsoft Account.

Or you could setup your xbox properly

Make his own profile.and =account

All guest profiles get home gold membership to share without linking your payment option

All new consoles allow for home gold which allows all profiles on the same console designated as home to share the membership ps4 and xbox one supports this

No one should be on your profile

 

Thanks for your input ngocphi. He doesn't want to lose all his gaming data, so I think the best solution would be to create a separate code for him.
