External usb 3.0 drive randomly disconnecting and reconnecting

I have been having an issue with an external drive. It randomly will disconnevt at the home screen or during a game and kick me out. You know it disconnects as it says external drive is ready for use. I have tried a different drive as well as a different
cable. I have tried a different ups as well. Nothing seems to fix the issue. Any thoughts or ideas.

    :)

External Hard Drive Randomly Disconnects on Xbox One : FIXED!

    Issue Recap:

I bought an ssd drive to use as an external hard drive for my xbox one, and a usb 3.0 external enclosure for it. It kept disconnecting randomly so I replaced the enclosure thinking that would fix it, still randomly disconnects. I tried all usb ports reloading
the xbox OS with the recovery files on a usb stick etc and still random disconnects.

    Solution:

I added a cheap/small $12 non-powered usb 3.0 hub between the hard drive enclosure and the xbox and have had no issues since.

    Details:

It is my assumption that the issue is related to the power down method that the drive uses and the usb hub may act as a translator so to speak. I had a similar issues with some nas drives on my raid server.

    Question for Microsoft:

Is there an ETA on when this issue might be fixed?

    External Hard Drive

Sorry to hear it. Is the drive USB 3.0 compatible?

Can you try reformatting the drive on your PC and then reconnecting to the One?

Have you tried doing a hard reset on the console? Press the power button on the console for 10 seconds or until it shuts down completely. Then unplug the cable from the back of the console for 5 minutes then plug it back up and power up. Once it is back
up test to see if you are still having issues with the external drive. Good Luck!

  6. I am having the same issue. I bought an external Seagate a few weeks ago. It's been running fine since then. Today, I've been trying to install Forza 6 and throughout the entire installation, the drive would disconnect and reconnect until finally disconnecting
for good. I tried hard rebooting and moving the drive from the rear USB to the side. I've tried turning off the drive when the console is off. Nothing seems to make a difference.

  7. It is a software issue regarding the boot sector, similar to a bios in a computer. If that is corrupted, the only fix is to reflash the ROM. Here, the ROM boot looks for a removable drive, and if that particular section is not perfect, it won't look for
the drivers and load them up when the drive is plugged in.

A factory reset MIGHT restore that boot sector, but if that still fails, the whole hard drive, motherboard has to be taken out, serviced and reflashed by a computer offline; something a good IT tech has to do that is an expert in that area of programming.

I don't know if there is a battery (like there is on computers) on the mainboard of the console to keep the boot system settings active, but if there is, removing that usually restores the settings back to default, so the boot system can look for the external
    hard drive.

Grinning If it is a software issue what am I supposed to do to fix this? This does not seem like a viable option seeing as it requires the whole box to be taken apart.
