External Storage Wiped after XBox Update 4/7/20

I have a Seagate 1 TB storage device that I've been using with my Xbox One (Day One Edition) for years and have never had a problem after Xbox updates until today when I ran the latest update released on April 7th, 2020. After the update, my Xbox no longer
was recognizing my device. I unplugged it and plugged it back in and restarted the console. It now sees the device but says its full and when viewing what is installed, nothing comes up. I know I had at least 50% free on the device before update.

    :)

Are you in a Insider preview?

If so you should use the XBOX Insiders Forum and the Report a problem feature.

    Xbox 360 S corrupt HDD

You most certainly can wipe it. After it's wiped you put it in a PC, format it as a standard external hard drive, then put it in the xbox and format it as an xbox storage device.

    Potential Issues with June Update

I am not to concerned. I only used external storage a few times back on XBOX 360 I was playing the recent Hitman game and it froze on me during the fifth or sixth chapter/mission, which for some reason wiped the entire game save, after that I saved it on
both the 360 HD and an USB Thumb Drive.

So in rare cases like those, is the only time I would use external storage on XBOX One. Unless the force us to use external storage. Which in that cause I won't update... but I highly doubt it would be forced.

i recently bought an external storage expansion for my xbox series s but it keeps crashing.

    Hi
My name is Rishabh an Independent Adviser, I hope you are doing great out there.

Experiencing crashes after connecting an external storage expansion to your Xbox Series S can be frustrating. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the issue:

    1. Compatibility Check:
Make sure the external storage expansion you purchased is compatible with the Xbox Series S. The storage should meet the Xbox's requirements for USB 3.0 or later and the minimum storage capacity.

    2. Reconnect and Power Cycle:
Try disconnecting the external storage expansion, turning off your Xbox Series S, then reconnecting the storage, and turning on the console again. This simple step might help establish a stable connection.

    3. Update Firmware:
Check if the external storage expansion has any available firmware updates. Manufacturers sometimes release updates to improve stability and compatibility.

    4. Test on Another USB Port:
If you have multiple USB ports on your Xbox Series S, try connecting the external storage to a different port. This can help determine if the issue is related to a specific port.

    5. Check for Drive Errors:
Connect the external storage to a computer and run a disk check to identify and fix any potential errors on the drive.

    6. Format the Drive:
If possible, format the external storage using the Xbox Series S itself. Make sure to back up any important data before formatting.

    7. Test Without External Storage:
Disconnect the external storage and see if your Xbox Series S functions normally without it. This can help determine if the storage is causing the crashes.

I hope this helps! Let me know if you have any other questions.

    Thanks and regards

Games not appearing on external hard drive

    Hi ItsOminousCloud,

Is the drive being detected under Storage? If it is not then try the following link please:

Troubleshoot external storage detection on Xbox One

I would recommend connecting the external drive to a PC/Laptop and if it is detected then what needs to be done next is a reset to the external drive itself.

    1. Plug the drive into the port on the PC or Laptop

    2. Go to files explorer

    3. Locate the drive (is it detected)

    4. If detected, right click then format

This will wipe the drive. After, eject the drive then plug the drive back into the console port

Side Note: it may have you format to match the console in NTF format

Let me know if this helps :)
