    External Storage Ready

    Hi,

I've recently got the 'External Storage Ready' error message, which is kicking me out of games and generally being a nuisance. I've done some reading and I couldn't come across any sort of fix which is a little frustrating.

I'm just wondering if it is the Xbox itself that is the issue, or if I get a new Storage device will that solve the issue? I have too many games to be messing with memory storage.

So, would getting a new storage device solve it for now?

    Many thanks.

    :)

    External storage ready message

I have just purchased a 1tb samsung spin point 3.5 " and usb 3 enclosure. Since successfully formatting the drive I constantly get the above message as if the external drive is disconnecting and connecting from the console. it happens at random but regularly.
I have tried power cycling the console, clearing cache and deleting alternate mac Which has slightly improved the situation but ultimately I can not play games from it as it will still lose connection. I have also turned off the switch off storage option
    but the problem persists.

I have formatted the drive initially on pc an it remained stable before then plugging in to the console and reformatting for use on the xbox.

can anyone help. I only purchased the equipment due to the very few criteria listed on the support section on the website.

Sorry to hear it. Can you please try holding the power button on the console for 10 seconds until it shuts down then unplug everything and let it sit for 5 minutes.

Hi, Thanks for the response. I've already tried powering done, unplugging peripherals etc. I've even used different Usb ports and the problem remains.

I'm just wondering if anyone else that had this issue has solved it by getting a new storage device? It's clearly an issue with the Xbox that is causing this, but I want to know if I can temporarily get a new storage device and if it will work?

    Thanks.

It could be an issue with the storage device and replacing it could solve it. What brand external drive are you using?

I'm using a Seagate 2tb portable HDD. It's been working fine for months, and seems to be fine for about an hour of use, before I get kicked out of my game and get the 'external Storage Ready' message.

I don't want to buy a new one if it will just get the same error.

Ok, I think the issue that you're having is due to the storage device itself. Seagate drives are known to have issues with xbox consoles. If you are going to get a new one I would recommend WD (Western Digital) as they seem to work the best.

    Hey there Baldy17,

I would take that external to a working PC and run a diagnostic tool from the manufacturer to check the drive's S.M.A.R.T. status as well as for any bad sectors that might have appeared. Do post the results here if you are not sure how to read them.

For a replacement drive I could suggest checking out WD My Passport X as it's designed specifically for this:
