External Storage Ready pops up and closes whatever game/app was open?

Hi there! Apologies if this has been asked before:

I'm having a hard time lately with my Xbox One. I was playing a game for 2 hours when I got the notification that my "external storage is ready." When this pop up came up, it suddenly closed me out of the game I was playing without saving. This has happened a few times before when I was using Netflix or YouTube after the console had been running for a few hours, it's pretty frustrating. I have one external hard drive plugged into the USB in the back of the console. Why does that pop up close whatever game/app that I had open? What can I do to fix this??

well now it broke again

if you wonder what its doing i open up the app then it pops up with a error screen

then i close it and the app closes

Same problem here for the past month and a half with a Western Digital 3TB. It worked fine for a couple months, but then really went downhill.

Same deal with the "External storage ready for use" pop-up happening constantly, cutting off gameplay, etc.

Hi Ive recently purchased a 1TB external hd 3.0 and when it is plugged in I get a message on the screen saying external storage ready, then when im installing a game to the external hard drive it keeps saying installation stopped then it comes back up with
external storage ready again this happens every 40 seconds or so could someone please help

If you have games or apps installed on the external storage, or using it for clips, the console will read the content on the external storage continually, similar thing happens when you use it on Pc
