External storage ready notification every few minutes

I am getting an external storage ready notication every few minutes whenever my samsung pro 256gb is plugged in. Its driving me insane pulls me out of bf4, movies etc to get notified. Anyone else having this problem?

well after updating my xbox my external hard drive keeps telling me its ready every 5 secs its seems to not like the update after restarting xbox a few times with out hard drive plugged in the plugging it back in seems to do the trick so far .it kept hanging
every time if would say external storage is ready if was fine before update .

so far it seems to be working but they might want people to know to unplug external storage before running the new update

Hi Ive recently purchased a 1TB external hd 3.0 and when it is plugged in I get a message on the screen saying external storage ready, then when im installing a game to the external hard drive it keeps saying installation stopped then it comes back
up with external storage ready again this happens every 40 seconds or so

 

Is the device USB 3.0 capable? If now, it should be or it will not function properly.

 

Yeah its in a caddy with a usb 3 connected to the one.

 

Its samsung pro 840 series 256gb. Thought it was usb 3 compatible.

 

When you say in a caddy do you mean a usb extender? If so then that will not work. The drive itself must be usb 3.0 too.

 

Its a 2.5 inch usb 3.0 hard drive enclosure.

 

And did it all come as one package or did you have to put it together? Sorry if the questions seem silly but I'm just trying to get a picture in my head to better understand

Ok, it's possible that the drive itself is not compatible then. That would be the reason that you are getting this message.

Just to be sure though try holding the power button on the console for 10 seconds until it shuts down. If the problem persists when the console restarts you know the issue would be with the drive.

I got a WD MyBook and I like it, but it doesn't shut down like it does with a computer

I say Xbox needs to make the Xbox One power off USB when you turn the One off
