    External Storage Problem

    Hi,

Since this morning, I have a big problem on my Xbox. When nothing plug on it, everything's fine but when I plugged my External Hard Drive, the console reboot, freeze on the Xbox green screen during the animation, reboot again and going for an infinite loop.
If I start the console with the External Hard Drive plugged, it makes the same things.

Does someone know what happened please ?

    :)

I don't think that it's that bad of a catch to prevent me from using the external storage. Though I am not sure if I will ever need to actually use external storage. The fact that there will be 33 games at launch makes me think that eventually, a lot of users will need the external space. I'm OK with it not being functional for downloadable games. No biggie.

    Hey there, Elraugraun!

I'm sorry to see any external hard drive issues! It sounds like the console is having a few issues with recognizing the hard drive. Have you tried another USB port on your console with the same hard drive?

If so, I suggest formatting your hard drive to NFTS on a Windows PC, then trying again. If that doesn't work for you, then I would suggest

    factory resetting your console
to see if that will resolve this.

Let me know how it goes! We'll look at our next options if that doesn't help you out. External Storage Problem :)

    external storage problem

If you don't mind doing the disk, you could try it back in your pc and do a disk check to make sure it is OK.

The disk looks like it would be OK, so it could be the cable or the disk caddy you are using.

It does sound like the xbox is having an issue reading the drive.

Have you tried it on a different USB port?

What kind of SSD is it?

    Problem with external storage

Do you have any issues if you connect the drive to another machine entirely? It will help to see if there's a problem with the drive itself or (possibly) the Xbox system instead.

    Problem with external storage

    Hello SeafaringJarJar,

Thank you for posting on the Xbox forums. Are you using an Xbox One or Xbox 360? We recommend connected your external hard drive to the console with a different USB 3.0 cable. A faulty cable can affect the hard drive's connection to the console. Also,
you can try connecting the cable to a different USB port on the console. If you have access to a different console; you can use the external hard drive with the other console to find out if the issue lies within the external hard drive or your console. Be
sure to let us know the results!

    External Storage Problem

So the drive is detected once you unplug and the plug it back in? It's only on start up? I would look into Settings for Power & Startup on your console and see if it turns off storage when the system is turned off. And what power settings is your console
set to? Might be that the drive is taking lower to "power up" than the system is willing to give it at boot up? I would recommend trying to toggle that and see if it makes a difference.

    Let us know!
Good suggestion. I did change those today - it was defaulted to low power settings, but I changed it to instant on. Also removed the checkbox to power down external drives when the system is turned off. No change to the behavior.

I'm not sure when the last update was, or if it corresponds to the timing on this problem...but I know it worked until about 2 months ago.
