External storage problem after latest system update

When external HDD support rolled out with the June update, my HDD would remain on indefinitely unless the Xbox was completely powered down. With the July update, they added an option to power off external storage when the Xbox was turned off.

Since I like being able download updates and such when the system is in standby, I unchecked this option. However, when my Xbox is in standby mode my external hard drive will start to power up and then shut off and just keep doing this over and over again.
It will continue doing this until I wake up my Xbox from standby mode and then it works fine.

For reference, it's the same Seagate 4TB model that Major Nelson said they used making the video showing off the feature.

Quick Fix? - New Dashboard preview update problem

Unplug your external hard drive and do a hard reboot. Then when your Xbox is back on the home screen, plug your external hard drive back in. I had that same problem.

The latest update should have fixed that problem though. Go to Settings and System to see if there is an available update.

Hi there, go into settings and then select power and start up and make sure power down drive with console is checked off. This option will power down everything when you power down your console.

 

My external HDD is doing this wether the option is checked or not, but only while my Xbox is in standby mode. The only way it remains off is if my Xbox is completely powered down.

 

If you uncheck "turn off storage" option, you have to hard reset Xbox to make it work. Hold Xbox button 5 seconds let it turn off. After that usb Hdd should stay on. I have Seagate Backup Plus Fast 4TB and it's doing same on/off thing. Maybe next update
will fix it.
