External storage over 2TB - no files found (Media Player)

Wondering if anyone has also seen this. I have an 8TB external drive (new WD MyBook) connected to my Xbox One, detected with no problems and set up as a media drive by the Xbox. The drive contains a lot of video - 99% of which the same codec/format (H264
    mkv).

Here's the weird thing. When browsing through the drive with Media Player, only some of the videos are visible to Media Player. For some directories, I can go into the directory, see the file(s) and play them no problems. For other directories, Media Player
shows "No Files Found". Having dug a little deeper, the invisible files are those that were written to the drive last, specifically those that were written to the drive after it was 2TB full.

I've also seen the same issue reported here: [Xbox] External drive read errors - possible 2TB limit on a 4TB drive?.

When the drive is connected to either of my windows 10 PCs, all videos are viewable and playable as you'd expect.

    Anyone have any ideas?

    Thanks in advance.

    :)

  2. "No files found" when connecting External 2TB HDD

    Hey guys,

I've been trying to connect my Western Digital 2TB external HDD to my Xbox One and it recognises it immediately. It allows me to select whether I want to use it as a media device or as an external storage for games. I've selected I wanted to use it as a
media storage and once I've done this it then allows me to access the external HDD. Once in the HDD I can see all the folders that I've got but once I go in to the folders I'm met with the "No files found" message when there are most definitely plenty of files
in the folders. Any one got any ideas why this might be or if there are any work arounds?

    Thanks for any help!

Best options to support for drives over 2 Tb in size? Just as Media Storage, and not Game Storage...

I never used the external HD for other types of files other than games, I also use one of the western digital 1tb, before it ran normal ?!
Yes, I can still access files put on the drive before I went over 2Tb and got into that last terabyte. Those files beyond the 2tb mark can be selected but every media player (Xbox Media Player, VLC, and Scorpio Player) all throw errors when trying to open
the files. The exact message I get from the XBox is...

    Can't Play

Please try again. The the problem continues....yadda yadda yadda...

I've even take a file written way back when the drive was new and made a copy of it on the same drive. Old version still loads, new version throws error. So it's totally XBox O.S. related. Has nothing to do with the storage other than it can't deal with
    drives over 2TB.

Mediaplayer and VLC Video playback issues

Everything I've found on this via the web or community says it is. Xbox wont read over 2tb for media. Period. Despite their saying they support large storage.

Evidently they only support large storage for games. Not media.

Theres no fix anywhere. Its [Mod removed- profanity]

Media Player difficulty! Media Player doesn't recognise external hard drive, can anyone help?

If your external HDD is partitioned for use as X1 storage, I'm fairly certain Media Player won't recognise it as a media storage device, and so won't be checking it for audio/video/image files. It'll basically be an extension of X1 storage.

The Media Player isn't all that great. I don't think it's even complete software. It does have 'preview' in the title still. lol I can only get the X1/Media Player to detect my tablet, phone, and laptop by using Universal Media Server, a free piece of software
that let's you organise what files can and can't be shared/streamed across devices.

If you Google you should find a free download. But that would mean you'd have to plug your external HDD into something other than your One, and have UMS set up to find it and make streaming content to the X1's Media Player a thing. =|

Media Player isn't recognizing *anything* anymore...

My Xbox detects and lists that there is an external hard drive attached but when I open it in media player I get the "No files found message". The external works perfect on my PC so I know it is not at fault!
