External Storage keeps disconnecting

Bleh, I was hoping this new system update would fix the issue. Still there.

 

I too am having this issue and it has been quite a while but it seems to have gotten much more frequent since the start of this year. I feel it wasn't a problem for me really at all until then

 

I THINK my issues started with the NXOE update. I had the drive, but never had any vital need to move things over until after that update (I bought a bunch of games around Black Friday/Christmas time that filled up the drive). Sometime in Early Fall though,
I plugged in the drive, formatted it, and moved a few Kinect games over that I rarely play, and it worked fine. One of the games I moved over was Fantasia, and I last played that in September, so clearly the drive was working then.

 

Have you tried a hard reset since the latest (Feb) update? If not try this now it has helped some. Completely disconnect the external HDD from the console. Hold the power button on the console for 10 seconds or until the power shuts down completely. Unplug
the power cord from the back of the console for 5 minutes. Plug the power cord back in and restart the console (DO NOT connect the external drive yet). Once it is back up and operational connect the external HDD and test for results. Let us know. Good

Just tried it, no luck. Same issue, I connect the drive, then it disconnects after a minute.

 

That is too bad. I am out of ideas. Maybe someone else has some additional ideas. Good Luck.

 

Mine has officially stopped recognizing the drive altogether, no matter what I do it won't even show up for the short amount of time it had before. Worked fine last night, not at all today. I understand that things may go wrong and of course I'm willing
to sit here and wait, but I am a little disappointed in the xbox crew for not really making any sort of statement about this issue when I've seen forum posts dating back to 2014 about this issue. I half expected at least a semi-official statement of, "Hey,
we know this is a thing" over the past two years. That would set a lot of minds at ease I feel.

An interesting thing happened last night when I was messing around with this.

My console was already downloading a patch (for Rock Band 4, not that it matters) to the internal storage when I connected the external drive. This time however, the external drive actually stayed connected, rather than disconnecting after a minute, as
long as the patch was downloading to the internal storage. When the patch finally finished, though, the drive disconnected after a minute as usual.

 

Add me to the list with this problem. I have two external drives.

One labled AAA - a Seagate

Second labled GwG - A WD MyPassport Ultra

Only reason I have two is to make game browsing easier, cause who wants to scroll to the right FOREVER!!!!!

The seagate works perfect, the WD is hit or miss. Sometime the XBOX one sees the drive, sometimes not. If the ONE does see the drive after awhile paying a game from the drive the game will crash and drive dissapears. Same thing with game transfers, or
game updates to the WD. It will fail after awhile and drive is gone.

Really a PITA to download all the game again. Have done so twice already as I ran the WD disc utilities and drive came back fine. ARGH!!!!
