  1. External Storage Disconnecting on Sleep/Power Off

Hello, I just bought an Xbox One S and I'm having issues with the external storage that I bought disconnecting every time the Xbox goes to sleep or is powered off. The storage is not reconnecting. In order to fix it I unplug it and then plug it back in and
then it's recognized. Not the biggest deal in the world, but it's pretty annoying.

The SSD I bought is the Crucial MX300 525GB SATA 2.5.

The enclosure that I bought is the Sabrent Ultra Slim USB 3.0 to 2.5-Inch SATA External Aluminum Hard Drive Enclosure.

I already changed the setting on the Xbox to not power down storage when the Xbox goes to sleep, but that did not fix it.

So I'm wondering if I need to get a different enclosure for the SSD? I don't really want to get a new drive, but it's fine if I need to pick up a new enclosure.

    Thanks!

    :)

  2. turning off external hard drive

In Sleep mode your external HDD is supposed to be on as the Xbox One continually tries to download patches and updates for the hard- and software. If you want it turned off, you need to set it power management to Power Savings and then switch the One off
or press the Xbox button for 5 seconds on the console. that will power down the One completely as well. I have heard people having problems disconnecting while in sleep mode, being unable to resync their HDD later on, so it might not be a good thing to do
    ;-)

Can't format external drive for games and apps

Also someone said he fixed his problem using these steps ...If you’re currently in Instant-On mode, follow these steps to adjust the power management for storage:

Scroll left from Home to open the guide.

    Select Settings.

    Select All settings.

    Select Power.

    Go to Power mode.

Unselect the checkbox next to “When Xbox is off, turn off storage.”

External Storage Disconnecting on Sleep/Power Off

    Hey there -

Have you tried plugging your external into a different USB plug to see if that helps? If that doesn't work, it sounds like the issue may be with your hard drive/enclosure set up and unfortunately, we are unable to assist with third party devices.

Good luck! External Storage Disconnecting on Sleep/Power Off :)

Keep getting 'took too long to start' errors

The Xbox One X and S have the same operating system, so don't worry about that. Is this an external drive or the internal drive? If it's external change the power management settings to not turn off power to storage when the system sleeps. Some external
drives don't cope well with power state changes.

    Unplug Console

Does the external hard drive ever turn off when the Xbox is off?

The console has a setting to turn external storage off when the console is turned off. It's in the power settings. However, for some reason, some externals do not turn off when the console is turned off, even when the "When Xbox is off, turn off storage" setting is enabled.

The second thing that will cause most externals to go to sleep is inactivity. Usually there is a setting in the drive's own firmware that says "go to sleep after 30 minutes of inactivity" or whatever.

    Here's what I would recommend: -

    1. If it's not already enabled, enable the "When Xbox is off, turn off storage" setting in the console's power settings, then test to see if the drive turns off when the Xbox is turned off.

    2. If option 1 is no help and the drive never turns off, disable that setting, then see if the external turns off after a period of inactivity once the Xbox has been turned off.

If you unplug the drive when the console is off, obviously, if you have the console set to automatically update your games/apps, it won't be able to update anything on the external while the Xbox is off as it's not connected. That is the primary downside of what you're currently doing.

    Xbox series x storage expansion

    Hi there,

as far as I know you can change them and it's not limited to 3, just make sure that nothing is currently being saved, installed or updated on them when disconnecting an external storage device. I usually make sure the console is powered off, before disconnecting a storage device.
