    External SSD for Xbox One

    Hello people!

I was looking for additional storage on my good old Xbox One. And then though it was cool to get a SSD, to also increase speed loading.

Problem: I found a "Xbox One SSD Game Drive" 512GB from Seagate on Amazon. But it's waaaay to expensive....

Can I just use any kind of external SSD to plug into console?

Or did I need an "official" one?

    Cheers,

    S.

    :)

Is it safe to leave external SSD on all the time?

    Hiya, Mowaqas6969!

Paul from Xbox Forums Team here to assist with the issue, with the current question about safety concerns with the external SSD. The ambassadors information is correct it should be fine to leave the SSD on while plugged into the Xbox One console. If you
have any further questions about the external SSD I would recommend contacting Samsung to see if they have any recommendations.

    Happy Gaming!

    External SSD for Xbox One

Hi, you could use pretty much any ssd but you’d need an enclosure too. To be honest for the cost it’s just not worth it for a few seconds of reduced loading times. You could get a far larger usb 3.0 external drive for your money.

Already have a 2 To HDD. Now I'm more into speed. And for the cost, I can afford a 1To SSD for <200€. The one I saw as "official" was a 512GB size for more than 300€.....

Thanks for the quick response External SSD for Xbox One :)

It's your money of course, you may find some games load in maybe 5 or so seconds faster compared to a regular hard drive ( not all games though, some will be less some more ) Not worth it in my opinion when you could get yourself a 3TB drive for what that
SSD will cost but of course it's your choice.

1TB at todays game installs isn't going to last long.

Will the Xbox Series X be able to use my external SSD

This has been covered and been mentioned as it has been a big concern. Right now, yes you can use your external SSD to play Xbox One and Xbox 360 games but you will not be able to play stored SX games on the external SSD. To be able to able to play SX
games they need to installed on the Series X's SSD not the external one.

    Xbox one X

Hi. No there wasn't a Xbox One X with a internal SSD built in. You can buy an external SSD to use if you choose.

Why can't you play series x games on ext ssd?

So the external seagate ssd for xbox is usb3.0 with 500mbps read and write speed right? I have two of them and i see alot of people saying "its because the external ssds are too slow to play games on,you can only play series x or enhanced one x games on internal or the seagate expansion ssd card" but alot of external ssds are fast enough? No?

Playing XB Series Exclusives on External SSD

So no upcoming X/S exclusive games will be able to play off an external SSD? Even an official Xbox external SSD?

    XBOX X/S controller intermittently blinks

Thanks. It appears the SSD external drive number 2 was the issue. Maybe!

That narrows it down to 3 issues.

    Bad USB SSD Docking cable

    Bad SSD

XBOX S does not play well with 2 external SSD drives

Sometimes when a drive starts to fail it will do strange things .

last one that failed had a bad cable as well as a bad drive. Difficult to troubleshoot eh.
