Discus and support External optical drive in XBoX on Consoles to solve the problem; Is it possible to connect an external optical drive to a XBox Series S (eg. for installing Games?).?     No. The console wouldn't be able to install drivers to recognize an external optical drive.

    No stress. Feel free to ask all the questions you might have. And no, external optical drives will not be supported, but you are able to use external hard drives to add to your storage capacity.

    Sounds like the optical drive is about to give up the Ghost.

    Before it goes completely out, I would purchase a 2TB USB external hard drive and copy all the disc based games to it. That way, the next time you're ready to play say. Halo Reach, the optical drive only has to read the codex from the disc itself and the
    game then launches/plays from the external drive saving a lot of wear and tear on the optical drive. Pretty much in the same way as current gen (X1/PS4) does.

    I think he's asking if it'll be able to use an actual optical external disc drive, and not a hard disk drive.

    I don't believe the Digital One S will support optical. I haven't seen anything saying it would.
