    I am having the same exact problem. I've tried streaming with an external USB soundcard for playback and recording (mic), and I've also tried to do this with a headset plugged into an Xbox One controller that is wired into the PC. In both cases, like the
    OP, I can hear the Xbox audio while streaming, but the Xbox does not recognize that I have a mic connected. I've also tried the standard and beta Xbox apps on Windows 10 with the same result. Would really like to know the fix for this.

    If I were to live stream on twitch, how can I connect a microphone, so people that are watching can hear me?

    If you're streaming from an Xbox console, then your headset mic should work. If you are streaming from PC, any USB Mic should work.
