Have you tried the hard reset on the console? Try this. Disconnect the HDD from the XBOX. Hold the power button on the console for 10 seconds or until it shuts down completely. Remove the power cord from the back of the console for 5 minutes. Plug the
power cable back into the console (do not connect the HDD yet) and power up the console. Once it is online and logged in completely re-connect the HDD. Let us know how it goes. Good Luck!

    Hi,

If you completely power cycle the console - turned it off completely and then powered back up, do your games run from your external drive now?

With the console on and on the dashboard, press and hold the power button on the machine untill the console powers down. Wait about 20 seconds and power back up. Let us know how this goes.

Also, what type of external hard drive do you have? What's it's make and model?

    Thanks.

    External hd issue

The only solution to make the external harddisk work again is connect it to a pc and delete it or simply destroy the partition. The next time you connect it to the XBox One it suddenly appears and the menu asks how it should be formatted.

A very big shame on Microsoft for that stupid coders on the XBox Security

    External Drive Issue

I checked the drive with my PC and it's fine. I did the hard reset and created my cache, didn't work. Tried new cables, nothing. The only thing I didn't try was connecting to a different Xbox because I don't have access to one. It still does 100% full and
can't access any games (it was only 60% full before the problem started). I gave up hope and formatted the drove and it seems to be working now. I'm nervous to put much on it though for fear of the issue reemerging. This is the second time I've had to consume
my bandwidth for a month to redownload my games. My Day One Edition Xbox had an internal drive failure and I was partially saved by having some games on the external drive. Now I have an Elite, but all the games that were saved last time around are gone...
    Oh well. Thanks all!
