hi all, i'm having problems with an external hdd. it was working up until yesterday but now my xbox one won't recognize it and as a result i cant play several of my games due to using 99% of the internal drive. the external is a 2tb samsung d3 station and
is usually plugged into the side usb port on the xbox. any help will be brilliant please. thank you.

    :)

All I can suggest is this: -

    1. Try a different USB cable.

    2. Try a different USB port on the console.

    3. Try hooking the drive up to a PC to see if it's recognised.

I know that's obvious stuff, but there's not a great deal more you can do really.

  5. hi, thank for the reply. the only thing i haven't tried is a different usb cable but that's because it a special shaped one for the hdd. the pc recognizes that a usb device is plugged in but obviously cant select it as its formatted to the xbox one. do you
    have anymore suggestions please?

    thanks again

Does it show up under Manage Storage, or does the Xbox One literally not see it at all?

What I would do is format it on my PC so it's back to a regular NTFS drive again, then reconnect it to the Xbox One and see if it works then. Obviously, that will wipe it so you'd need to redownload all of your games. It may not work too, but it's the last
thing I can think of trying.

Have you tried holding the power button on the console until the it shuts down? That fixes most problems.

  11. hi onyx62is, yea that was my first port of call then changing usb port. the only thing left to do is contact seagate for a replacement/repair. thanks for the suggestion though.

I have the same issue. The only fix I can find is to remove the drive and plug it into my PC. I need to re partition the disk for my PC to recognize it and then format it to NTFS. I drag a few files over just to make 100% sure the disk is ok and then plug
it back into my xbox. The xbox will always then detec the disk, re partition it and format it. This fix means I then need to re install all of my games which typically takes 2-3 days. I have been onto microsoft about the fault and they tell me its a HD fault
and I need to go back to the manufacturer. I have looked on the seagate forums and can find nothing related to this fault.

Seagate HDD's are the worst for this. If you're gonna get a replacement, i suggest forking out a little more and getting either a WD or Toshiba. The later two make better HDD's.

It's not his hard drive, the same issue happened to me and tons of other people. It's the preview update. Why do stupid people on here tell him to buy a new hard drive?

@SpauldingX - While you and a few others may be experiencing issues like this, it is far from a widespread problem as you are making it out to be as the vast majority of users are not experiencing these issues (both my external hard drives are functioning
normally with no problems). It is just as possible for the hard drive failing to be a coincidence with the release of the update as much as the update causing the issue. You cannot definitively state that the update is causing all hard disk failures without
more information. While there are some reports of this issue, it appears to be fairly isolated due to the small number of people (fewer than 10 posts of this problem in forums) reporting this issue. While we can understand it is frustrating that something
like this has happened to you, calling people names because they are offering a possible solution or differing prognosis of the problem is not constructive nor helpful.

Why is all my games gone from my memory bank?

are they stored on the internal hdd or do you have an external hdd, if external is that working.

    External HDD

Yes External HDD support is available. The External HDD must be at least 256GB in size and use USB 3.0. Keep in mind that the External HDD will have to be formatted for use with the Xbox One console.

Do you have available any External HDD? If you have you can try to find if is a hardware issue in the Internal HDD by installing the games in a external hdd.
