External HDD stutter

I just purchased the Xbox one x last week coming from a PS4. I’m enjoying it so far however I’ve noticed a problem. I plugged in my 4tb western digital passport and formatted it for game use then proceeded to install all of my games to it. Everything went
flawlessly. Games installed smoothly and all icons load snappy under my games and apps. I started playing diablo 3 and noticed after a while some slight hitches or stutters in the gameplay. Almost split second freezes. So I tried another game, Skyrim. Game
seemed to be running smoothly however when a character talks often i started getting again stutters. This Is happening in more than one game. I troubleshooted by first reinstalling the games. This didn’t work. I moved the games to a different 1tb western digital
password hard drive and proceeded to format my 4tb on my computer. Before plugging that back in I figured I’d test the 1tb see if that fairs better however even with a different external it still happened. I tried disconnecting from the internet, restoring
the Xbox completely, plugging the Xbox into the wall directly, plugging it into a power strip. None of these solutions seems to fix the issue until I moved the game to the internal drive then it ran completely smooth. I tried 3 external hdds. 2 4tb WD my passports,
1 1tb WD my passport. All of these drives worked with the PS4 and work with my pc. All drive tests are good on them. Is anyone else experiencing this issue? I’d rather not have to exchange my console.

Is a External HDD 7400RPM a big improvement?

i want to upgrade my xbox one with a bigger HDD. I have my interests in the My Book 4TB from WD. I read on plenty of sites it is the most chosen external hdd. However i cant find anything about how big of a improvement it is.

Does anybody know if it is worth buying a external hdd?
Does the My Book make a lot of sound?
Is there any lag/stuttering when playing the games from the external HDD? (My main concern) or is it just as fast or even faster than the default HDD which is in your console?

Fallout 4 flat out crashing?

Mines installed on an external hdd as well and if I remember the specs the connection they use with the internal is slower then what you'll get on an external

Do the games act the same when you have them installed on the internal storage?

 

once moved to the internal drive they run smoothly. I’ve since tried Forza Horizon 3 and zoo tycoon from the external and they run smoothly. However all the externals I’ve tried exhibit the same behavior. All externals have passed full tests on my pc as
well though. I exchanged my system after all and it still happens. At this point I have to assume it’s something with the Xbox one x firmware or the games Xbox x patches.
