External HDD stopped working with xbox one

I have a WD 3TB HDD, which has worked perfectly well with my Xbox One for the last year or so. At the weekend it suddenly stopped working, and now i am unalbe to access my stored games that were on the drive.

Has any one else had this issue, and how did you sort it?

    So far i have tried:-

    • Holding the power button on the Xbox One, for 10 secs so it restarts.
    • Tried a all USB ports on the Xbox One
    • Drive boots up fine when i start up the Xbox One
All help would be much appreciated,

    Thanks

    :)

XBOX One External HDD Stopped Working *FIXED*

    Hey all, first post.

Woke up this morning to find that my XBOX One was not recognizing my USB 3.0 500GB Seagate Backup Plus External HDD. It had previously been working fine so this was a surprise. Here are the steps I tried that did NOT resolve the issue:

    1) Plugged the external into a different USB port on the XBOX.

    2) Fully power-cycled the XBOX, even unplugging the power cord for up to 1 minute.

    3) Noted that the external was able to be "seen" by Disk Utility on my Mac.

    4) Swapped out a different USB 3.0 cable.

None of those steps worked as suggested by the XBOX troubleshooting article from Microsoft. After verifying that my data was secure because XBOX Live syncs and stores data in two places - the cloud and locally, on my device, then finally, as a matter of
last resort, I did the following (THE FIX):

    1) Performed a HDD diagnostic using Seatools to verify the disk functionality and that there were no bad sectors.

    2) Used Disk Utility to completely format the HDD in MS-DOS FAT with an MBR.

Then finally, I plugged the external back into my XBOX One and it popped up and asked to format the external again. Now, I am able to use the external HDD as external storage - just as I was doing before.

This whole ordeal raises some questions and concerns:

    1) Why would the external stop working, randomly? There was no system update that may have corrupted data, it had not been unplugged or even touched at all. The HDD tested in good condition by the manufacturers drive testing software, and the XBOX is behind
a surge protector (the HDD is USB power only).

    2) I now have to wait a full day for my XBOX Store purchases to re-download. Halo 5 by itself is about 55GB. Because I live in a rural area, it is going to take quite a while and I can't play any of the games until they are done downloading. This concern,
in the future, will drive me back to buying physical copies of discs, which I had stopped doing because I wanted the ability to download my games on any XBOX console I signed in to. That benefit is not worth it if I ever have to go through this again.

Anybody else experience anything like this? Is there a bug or a fix in the work from those in-the-know? Thanks, and hopefully this post helps somebody in the future.

  3. Xbox One external HDD suddenly stopped working

    Good day team Microsoft,

I was playing Assasins Creed Origin this afternoon. The game is saved on my external harddisk drive and suddenly my Xbox closed Assasins Creed and my E xternal Harddisk drive was no longer shown. I have tried all the options from the website of Microsoft
and I have no clue what to do now. My harddisk drive is only 2 weeks old.

Thank you and awaiting your positive response.

I'm having the same issue except i have a 2tb seagate expansion . It worked great for a while and now it can't connect no matter how many times i try to replug it or follow all of the steps i've seen to fix it, it's like it is invisible. The light turns
on and nothing shows up as external HDD on my xbox one anymore.

    Are they for real?

The Xbox One also has versions available with either a 1TB or 2TB HDD.

Or you could just buy an external HDD like most of us have done and stop complaining.

Instant On features haven't worked in over a year, can anyone help me get it working again???

Plus my over 100 XBLA games that I can't play anymore on xb1, and I have 72 games on my xb1 between internal and external HDD. Before anyone suggests it....these features stopped working long before I got an external hdd, lol.

    Yoostar 2 & External Harddrives

Okay a little confusing but here's how it works. When any External Device be it a HDD or Flash Drive is used as a Storage Device (Memory for the Xbox 360), the Xbox 360 will only recognize it as such (a Storage Device) via the
USB. In short, a really huge External HDD becomes a 16Gb (Max) Storage Device from USB.

Some Games and some Features of Xbox LIVE require an Official MS Xbox 360 HDD that is for that particular Xbox 360 Console (ie Slim with Slim HDD). Simply using an External HDD will not work for these cases. Any External Storage Device is meant to supplement,
not replace an Official HDD or the performance of one that some Games and Features require.

    external hard drive

I would asssume that it will work, but I'd wait until Xbox lets us know for sure, there may be some requirements specific to the Scarlett for external HDD to work with it, so best to not buy one, atleast until we are told by Xbox if scarlett will support
external HDD and if so, what the requirements are.
