    External HDD Stays on

I just setup and moved all my storage to an external WD Passport USB3 1TB drive (USB Powered). I have my system setup to shutdown all the way and not stay on instant on mode. I have noticed that the external drive light slowly blinks when the system is
fully shut down is this normal? Shouldn't the external drive shutdown along with the system?

    :)

The OS stays on the internal HDD. You can set the Xbox One to install games to the external storage device by default. You can also move all your stuff over to the external drive.

  3. October 2018 xbox one s update problem

    Hi

I've been timing it for about hour now my external drive comes on between few seconds to few minutes and stays active for few seconds than goes off then does same over and over while it's in instant-on opinion if put my console on Power save then the external
hdd goes off after about 5-10mins and stays off.

I'm now just thinking is this new power setting within the October update to keep external hdd active in the instant-on opinion. As before this update it only came on when there was updates that needed downloading when console off.

The console is always receiving power (unless turned off/unplugged at the mains). This is so that when the power button is pressed, it powers up. The blinking LED on the external hard drive simply means that there is power to it. Unless it is making any
noise, it is not reading/writing data.

So a slow blinking light even on power saver is nothing to be alarmed about? I guess it make sense as I've charged my controller with the system fully powered down. Thanks for the reply just wanted to know if it was going to shorten the life of this drive
that now holds all my downloaded games.

  6. No the Hard drives life should not be shortened being that it is usb powered. As medium bloke said the console is always receiving power unless it is unplugged from the outlet. The external drive you have you said was usb powered so it is like a chain of
power. The outlet gives power to the system and the system gives power to the external drive. The slow blinking light is basically the drive saying hey I have power.

I got a WD MyBook and I like it, but it doesn't shut down like it does with a computer

I say Xbox needs to make the Xbox One power off USB when you turn the One off

    Please fix this issue Xbox
