External HDD Prevents Xbox1 from getting online?

Hello, I have just newly purchased a 1TB USB 3.0 WD My Passport external HD from BestBuy (was recommended by the customer sales guy, I stated that it was for use for a Xbox1.) Anyways, I hooked this new external drive up to my Xbox1, and noticed some issues
that I cannot seem to find any answers as to how to fix. Namely, every time I connect the HD to the xbox1, it disconnects me from the internet completely. Nothing else has changed. I tested this multiple times with restarting the xbox with the external hd
disconnected, loading a party up, inviting a friend and talking no problem. As soon as I plugged in the external HD, the party chat will lag, and then crash, as well as complete online access. I've tried restarting the X1 with the external HD attached, and
no internet access. I've tried power cycling the Xbox, the router, in every conceivable options of external hd plugged in or not, etc. It results in the same thing, if the device is attached to the xbox, the xbox will not connect online.

Let me add that the hard drive will copy files over completely fine. It is formatted for the xbox1, I have loaded games on the hard drive fine. Its sole problem is the fact that with the external hard drive plugged in, (I have tried every single USB port
on the console, currently plugged into the left side port) the hard drive is getting power, etc.

I've been searching quite a bit on here, on reddit, on google etc and have only seen one other help post considering this, but it contains to the preview dashboard thing which I am not a member of. So, I am pleading with any/every one who may have a possible
answer for this, what can I do to actually use the HD, with the Xbox1, and still maintain an online experience. quite frankly this is a bit ridiculous that an external hard drive is the culprit (unless I am missing something completely here after trying every
other scenario for connectivity issues) to crash the internet on this console. So is there any thing I am missing here? Is there some patch that I missed, or what is going on? Is it this particular Hard drive?

Maybe with my frustration I have missed a post or a solution to this problem, so if that is the case, I apologize for wasting everyones time and if someone could point me in the correct direction to solve this problem that would be amazing.

    Thanks for your time.

    :)

  2. My Xbox One S review so far.

It does not, unfortunately. The only way to boosts FPS on Fallout on Xbox is with a faster external Hard drive. It struggles to load all the assets fast enough. There is a video on Digital Foundry that shows the FPS at around 26fps on both systems in a certain town with an external SSD installed. So, even with a better HDD and a Overclocked GPU, it's exactly the same on both systems (with the same HDD on both for consistency).

I bought a passport and had the same problem and exchanged it for a Seagate 4tb expansion hard drive and work perfectly I think the problem with the passport is that the software on it can never be erased. the Seagate drive is just what it is a expansion
drive no software imbedded in it. I hope that helps you

Thank you for your input. I am in the process of returning the drive now and going to try out an expansion drive. Will update if this resolves the issue. Kinda miffed that I lost all my save files and everything as well. Oh well. Live and learn right?

Achievements carry over. But some story mode games saves don't carry over unless you have them stored in the cloud or have external HDD and save then take it to XBOX1. Not sure if flash drives work yet for XBOX1? I know my GTA5 story mode didn't carry
over only online rank and achievements. Story mode I started over. If I had a cloud save then it would of worked.

Keep getting 'took too long to start' errors

Do you have any game updates downloading when you get the "took too long to start" errors? That is usually what prevents me from starting a game on my external HDD until I go into the Queue and Pause all downloads.

    Good luck!

External HDD doesn´t work fine with Xbox Obe

Sorry OP, But I must ask and do not wish to start another thread in order to do so.

Xbox One owners. Is Arkham99 correct in saying ¨you're lucky to get 6 months out of even the most robust models.'?

From what I am reading, SATA connections (Internal HDD) vs USB 3.0 external. The USB 3.0 is quicker and more efficient than SATA connections. If so, and Arkham is also correct, then external HDD manufactures better get with times IMO.

That leads me to the question. Are any of you X1 owners with external hdd's having problems playing games from your external HDD's, if so, or not. What External HDD do you have?
