  1. External HDD options

Hi, I'm looking into buying an external drive for my Xbox One, even though I have plenty of space on stock drive in console. The main reason I want to buy one is to shorten loading times of certain games i.e. GTA V, Forza 6. I've found that Western Digital
make a drive called Passport X'and Seagate 'Game drive. Am I right in saying that both these drives are just a standard drive in a glitzy packaging for console use, or are they worth considering, or should I go straight in for a SSD in an enclosure to achieve
    what I want it for??

    :)

u think they will eventually add 3rd party HDD internal support

Saw some arguing about it, so figured I'd help people understand.

External HDDs that are a 2.5mm drive will not have an external power source.
External HDDs that are a 3.5mm drive will have an external power source. These drives also tend to be bigger.

But to go back on-topic, being able to plug in an external is a much better option than having to replace your hdd and reinstall everything. Would it be nice to have both? Sure, but the box wasn't made that way so it's not going to happen.

Why would an external drive shorten loading times?

  5. Just been looking around, the stock drive RPM are poor against "external" drive of users choice, by the looks of things it was using an SSD.

Hey there External HDD options :)

The My Passport X should give you good loading times and you don't need to reformat it as it comes ready to be plugged in straight to the console. You can also check out the other
    portable external drives and
desktop external drives from WD and see if any of the fit your budget and needs.

A SSD would surely give you shorter loading times but due to the external connection bottlenecking the SSD's performance to 350MB/s read/write. It would still give you very short seek times and latency and would boost your loading times.

Feel free to ask if there's anything else!

any usb 3 hdd will do fine, i don't know why people are so interested in waisting lots of money for an SSD to reduce loading times on a games by 2 - 4 seconds.

Seagate and Western Digital seem to be the ones to go for. Got a 2TB Seagate myself. Wouldn't bother with the Xbox branded HDD, it's no different than any of the others.
