    External HDD not sleeping on Series X


    Got my Xbox Series X setup and hooked up my Xbox branded external 12TB WD_Black D10 Game Drive HDD to play all my back catalogue. It all works fine, but when I turn the xbox off the HDD keeps spinning up for 5 or so seconds every minute or so and never goes
    to sleep. It is very irritating and noisy, and cannot be good for the drive.

    I have the instant-on power mode on and have tried both the ‘turn storage off when xbox is off’ option being checked and unchecked and neither stops it from happening.

    The only way I can get it to stop is to turn the instant-on power mode off and turn the Xbox to the energy saving power mode. This is not ideal, as this removes loads of benefits of the system, such as backround updates.

    Anyone know of any fixes for this? Thanks.

    I'm assuming the hard drive has its own power source. If so, then just turn it off at the wall.

    Smart delivery upgrade location?

    I have the same question. I have FH4 and Gears 5 on external hdd and i play on Xone X. What will happen when I plug in my external hdd to my new x series x. WIll the new concol see games already installed on my external hdd and how then smart delivery
    will work?? Must I change location of FH4 and Gears 5 from external hdd to internal ssd to use smart delivery?

    Do you use an external HDD? I'm sure most do. I have a 4TB external as my main HDD with every Forza on it including 5. When you get Series X, it's as simple as unplugging the HDD and plugging it into the USB on the Series X. Done. All games will be playable
    and benefit from some enhancements. (still need to see more info on this, exciting nonetheless)

    I have switched to an Xbox series X from an Xbox one S. we used an external sea gate hard drive to store games. The series x can see the hard drive but not all of the games stored on it

    What makes me think it’s a problem with the HDD is that I just plugged in another external drive that I use on a series s and the series x saw all the games stored on it. I may need to format the other hdd?

    Can i download the Xbox One version of dying light 2 on my Series X?

    This method did not work for me, it still downloaded the series x/s version of the game to my external hdd and would not play it.
