  1. External HDD Making Loading Times Worse

    Hello!

Looking for some help troubleshooting my external HDD. I've had it hooked onto my older gen Xbox One for some time now using it as extra storage for games and such. It is faster to transfer the content from the external to the internal HDD than downloading.
I have never been able to use any game content that is stored on the external HDD as the loading times are extremely long. The loading times are excessive (several minutes) and then if I manage to play the game it gets very choppy. This occurs with both large
    and small sized files.

I had been fine with this for some time but started looking at external HDDs again. All the material I'm finding says that an external HDD should load the games
faster than those stored on internal. I've already formatted the drive, power cycled the console and unplugged the drive. What else can I do? I'd prefer to have this sorted before I resort to buying a new harddrive!

I am running on a WD My Passport 1TB USB 3.0 external HDD.

    Thanks in advance!

    :)

Pretty soon Xbox One owners will be able to swap hard drives without voiding the warranty.

Games and apps not loading after starting from rest mode.

Have found the issue. Even though I'm loading from internal HDD it turns out my external is having issues and causing the freeze. When I unplug the external everything runs fine.

Am currently in process of shifting games and will re format external to see if that fixes it. If not it might be time for new external HDD. At least it's not the console!!

    Hi,

Sounds like you have a performance issue with your external hard drive. The only way you're going to be able to test this hypothesis is to do a hard drive test on a PC. To do this test however, your going to have to connect the
drive to Windows and format the drive again. You can do this via Disk Management in Windows.

You don't need to download any testing software to run a speed test of your external hard drive in Windows, as Windows already has a utility called
WinSAT built in that can be accessed from the Windows Command Prompt.

You can get a better understanding of how to use WinSAT from
    here

Open up the Windows Command prompt by clicking the Windows Search button and typing
    CMD and pressing Enter.

If you wanted to test the speed of drive D:\ for example, the command would be:

    winsat disk -d

With my drive connected to the USB 3 port on my pc, my WD Passport Ultra shows a read speed of around 87 MB/s. What does yours say?

    Loading Data to Game Frozen

Everyone having this problem it is SOLVED

Buy an external HDD and move everything on the internal HDD to the external

This will not only cut load times, but make the system run the way it should run. The internal Xbox HDD is garbage.

The lack of replacable HDD slot is a joke !

So external HDD's are not allowed at launch, no doubt MS will change their policy and only allow their own branded externalHDD's that they will sell at three times the price to make loads of cash.
