Hi there,

I have an old external 3tb Seagate drive that's been used with the old xbox box that is about 4 years old. I know it's full of games and stuff.

When I went to plug it into the new xbox one s, it gave me the option to either use it as a media drive or for games, games required the format.

I don't want to loose what's on the drive so I went to see if it would boot into windows and windows doesn't pick it up, under admin tools disk mngmt it claims that the drive is unallocated, which would explain why it's not being picked up my windows. What
do I do? I don't want to reformat the drive and erase all the game saves... As well as disc based games that arnt showing up under my box account.. Any ideas? Is there a tool to see if the drive is actually full or empty? Maybe 4 years ago that xbox used its
own format and now the new gear isn't recognizing the file format...

:)

External hdd from old xbox not recognized in new xbox one s or pc

Hi,

I'm sorry you're having issues with your external hard drive. Unfortunately these issues of a drive no longer being detected can happen from time to time. From the experience I've had with the console over the years I've found that when this happens there
is little you can do with the drive but reformat it again. Which unfortunately means installing and downloading your games again. There aren't any tools to check the drive on a console.

You don't need to worry about game saves, these are stored in the Xbox Cloud and will sync back when you put your games back on the drive.

The Xbox One has used the same format for external drives since the ability to use external storage was made, it hasn't changed. If you connect a formatted (or corrupt formatted) Xbox One configured hard drive to a PC, the only way to check the drive would
be in Windows own Disk Management, where it will show as 'allocated' as Windows does not recognise the Xbox file system.

If you want to check the drive for errors you'll need to format the drive in Windows and download any diagnostic software from the drive manufacturers website.

Data transfer question

I thought the transfer cable was only for the old XBOX to the new (s) model?
The transfer cables can also transfer from the older external HDD's.

Hard drive not found
Just trying to get the HDD to boot up so I can swap the info to the new xbox
This might be considered System Tampering (depends). What exactly do you mean by "swap" and "new" Xbox?

If you're trying to Transfer via an External Method of an older style HDD to a new one (with the Xbox 360 S), that is System Tampering and the Console will not detect the "old" HDD.
