External HDD for 360

Does anyone know if you are able to now use a External HDD and not just a flashdrive

Yoostar 2 & External Harddrives

Okay a little confusing but here's how it works. When any External Device be it a HDD or Flash Drive is used as a Storage Device (Memory for the Xbox 360), the Xbox 360 will only recognize it as such (a Storage Device) via the
USB. In short, a really huge External HDD becomes a 16Gb (Max) Storage Device from USB.

Some Games and some Features of Xbox LIVE require an Official MS Xbox 360 HDD that is for that particular Xbox 360 Console (ie Slim with Slim HDD). Simply using an External HDD will not work for these cases. Any External Storage Device is meant to supplement,
not replace an Official HDD or the performance of one that some Games and Features require.

Do you prefer the external or internal HDDs?

While I will gladly say that the 360 S improved upon the original design in nearly every fashion, one thing I prefer about the old design is the hard drive. It's not that the internal drives of the 360 S are a nuisance, but the old HDDs are a bit more convenient. Personally, I hope the new Xbox has an external HDD.

The external HDD is not meant to be used with the 360S. You will need to get an internal HDD for your new slim.

yeah, connect a usb external hdd and copy the data to that from the 360 then either run it from that on the 2nd 360 or then copy it to its internal hdd

It's also important to note, an External Hard Drive is not used the same by the Xbox 360 is an Official HDD. It will simply "see" the External Drive as a means of Storage. It does not replace an Official HDD as some Features from
either or both Xbox LIVE or a specific Game will not work without an Official Xbox 360 HDD.

Anyone know how the external storage is going to work? Do you have to buy a HDD from Microsoft like the 360 or can you just use any external HDD?
